Morts and Smitty back for Souths match

Eels fight for their season!

The Pirtek Parramatta Eels welcome back Ben Smith and Daniel Mortimer to the side this week for their clash with the South Sydney Rabbitohs at ANZ Stadium. Halfback Jeff Robson has been ruled out with a knee injury, unable to recover in time from a short turnaround from Sunday's game against the Wests Tigers to this Friday. The match will signal the last throw of the dice for both teams, fighting to stay alive in 2010.

All Ticketed Eels Members are entitled to watch the game free of charge. All Eels Members, Ticketed & Non-Ticketed will be entitled to the members' food and beverage discount throughout the venue on game day. Parramatta Ticketed Members and general admission members can enter free by scanning their cards at Gate B.

  • hows that side not in the eight?
  • They did say they wanted to test him in the second row and on the wing before the season was out.

I won't be surprised if he plays on the wing for Wenty next week.

Pat O'Hanlon told me he expects his shoulder to be ok either next week or the week after and that he's likely to play in the NSW Cup finals with Wenty as well. Mind you our second row stocks are pretty bloody good there right now, not even Te Maari can make the run-on side.
  • It also seems as though the club has now finally accepted that for now, Daniel isn't a halfback. Apparently Ando made comments along those lines on radio too during the week - that his best position is five-eighth.
  • i like the kid i hope he puts abit of size on over the offseason, maybe Morts and Murray the halves for next year.
  • The more I think of it, the more I'm inclined to just punt next year on Murray. At least, the kid appears to be a genuine playmaker. I don't think bringing Kimmorley in on a big contract for one year is going to improve the side at all and I'd rather use that cap to pay out one of the other big contracts like Tahu, and then give us some more cap space to go all out for Cooper or Mullen in 2012.
    • I think you'll find Phil that may be the clubs approach for next season.

I think they have realised that they have screwed up big time in the search for a quality Half (unless we some how pull off the Cooper signing) and have instead decided to line up an impressive crop of youngsters and see who rises to the top.

Next season our depth in terms of halves will be very good however it may be a case of quantity over quality. It will depend on whether any of these youngsters can rise to the challenge.

      Senior Halves for next season-

Robson (potentially to ESL, probably depends on whether or not we land Cooper)
      Mortimer
      Humble
      Murray
      Cross

+ I know of one other NYC half we have talked to who will be a senior next season and I am under the impression that there may be more aswell.

Then there is the rumoured signing of Cameron Bruest from the Raiders (Still eligible for NYC)

Plus we have Wehbe as a long term prospect coming through, and the potential in Amosa if he can find consistency.
      • Who is Cross?
        • Daniel Cross - played NYC this year, despite copping a few injuries and got to step up to Wenty a couple weeks back
      • I prefer the look of this side. Part of me thinks we will put 50 on the rabbits just in typical parra fashion to remind everyone that they can play if they want to. Makes u feel sick in the gut remembering the potential from that manly game at brookie and the Melbourne game.
