Melbourne Storm

Melbourne Storm player Maurice Blair and club CEO Ron Gauci hold the J J Giltinan Shield after its presentation by NRL boss David Gallop. The Storm players couldn't even be bothered doing a lap of honour with the trophy, which has been held proudly by some of rugby league's biggest names.

Making noise well beyond their disappointing attendance, the 14,845 Melbourne fans booed the NRL boss so loudly his words were drowned out, which at least kept the speech short. He appeared to be speaking in mime. For all we know, he could have said, "You're a pack of cheats, suck it up".

Maybe he should have.

Seriously, Storm fans need to get over it. For the same reason Ben Johnson can't call himself the 1988 Olympic 100m champion - he was first past the post but was found guilty of using illegal steroids, and so stripped of his gold medal - Melbourne can't call themselves the premiers in 2007 and 2009.

So to treat the boss of the game like this time after time is disgraceful.

Gallop was in town to present the Storm with the JJ Giltinan Shield for winning the minor premiership. Before the game he stood on the sideline and as he was called to the microphone the rumble of boos escalated.

Melbourne coach Craig Bellamy said after the Dally M presentation that the Storm, having done all the hard work, won those two competitions fairly.

Again it smacked of Johnson.

Years after being stripped of his title and admitting he took drugs, Johnson's final act of defiance was to say that while he took drugs, that race was run and won on equal terms. It said everything while saying nothing.

  • Would we expect anything less from these Mexican SCUM.

How many times do the Melbourne Scum, and their inbred fans needs to make a mockery of Gallop and his band of monkeys, before the NRL will act to defend itself. They can ban other teams supporters from the game but refuse to retaliate against these grubs.

The Storm got off lightly for the atrocity they committed and are constantly jamming it down the throat of the NRL and Rugby League supporters in general, while forever playing the part of the Victim!

    • What do the Mexicans have to do with all this to call them Scum??????
  • Ive heard this too Tony.

Apparently when the Premiership Trophy was asked to be returned the Storm took their sweet time, as you would expect from these cocksuckers, and the NRL had to go and retrieve it themselves. The Storm were asked to hand over their premiership rings, but the players conveniently never fronted up to the meeting, the NRL didnt want to wait around all day so left with put the rings!

your right about the crowd figures for a semi final, but it makes me laugh that Gallop was using big city crowds as his reasoning behind the new venue system that has been introduced this year. And just think, the Scum get another AAMI Stadium game this weekend.

  • Bellamy is a tool. Lets can him in the same press conference with Waldron & co and replace the media with extreme mercernaries and see who squeals not hard done by and guilty first.
    • They will win the gf and I can bet anything that they will say some crap to get back at the nrl  they are fucking scum and should have been forced to pay alot more than they did
    • Before the game yesterday they anounced ballamy as three time dally m coach of the year ,shouldn't they call his award dally m coach of the year for excellence in a cheating team 3 times.
  • It makes me sick what the storm continue to do to the game ,it makes me sicker the fact that everyone involved in the game continue to talk the storm up ,tell them how good they are ,and how good they have done to get through those tough times .

in my eyes i think they have been nursed through the hard times by the nrl ,commentators, media etc.

Do the storm still use the central coast area as there juniors? if so this is probably the reason the bears were rejected just to protect the storm.

WE DONT NEED THEM THEY ARE THE CANCER OF THE GAME

That crowed yesterday was a disgrace.

And they still have those premiership rings what a joke ,also did all the players have to pay all that extra cash back if not they are still living off the riches and are still over the cap in my eyes .

  • Muttman,

I went to the manly game with a mate.. He is a crazy eagles supporter..

They have no fans at all.. 13000 or whatever it was is being generous.

Nothing will beat the 2009 major semi vs the dogs 72000 or 74000 whatever it was split down the guts..

    Absolutely brilliant.

As for the Storm fans, considering its Melbourne they do well to get the crowds they do.

Gallop got what he should of expected.. I could only imagine if it was us in that position. He probably would of been assassinated.. They are harmless.

But the crowds for 2 of the best were a disgrace, more so Manly.

  • Manly crowd was also a disgrace... The game needs Parra involved in the final series..

We get the most bums on seats!

  • You also have to take into account that those crowd figures, especially the 2 Sydney games, aren't a true reflection on paying fans that turned up to the games.

For the first time in 20 years, the NRL decided to allow junior league players to attend finals games using their Junior League Passes that are usually only recognised during the regular season, and only then if the game isn't a sell out.

Gallop only made this decision on the Thursday before the start of the finals because he looked at the amount of pre-sale tickets that had been purchased and thought "Shit, the crowds are going to be low this weekend in Sydney(the Heartland of Rugby League)".So by extending the use of the "Born to Be Blue" passes, and inviting the 180,000 registered Players, Coaches/Trainers, and Officials from all the Junior District and Country Leagues to these games, Gallop guaranteed himself "Bums on Seats".

Even if the crowd figures were low imagine how dismal they would have been without the Juniors that attended?
