  • Still a fair way off until end of 2022 and a lot can happen in that time. I think Matterson will be a long term player for the Eels. He seems to be very happy at the Eels from all reports.

    • His contract is up this year.  He could join the Dogs in November 2021.

Need to consider if we should keep NBrown and Matto. Or use Jennings money and Keep both

  • If the Dogs are prepared to pay (significant) overs for him they will probably get him. I reckon he was OK for us last year but nothing spectacular - another season like that wouldn't see us scrambling to upgrade him. Players like him need to be paid on performance, not percieved ability or potential.

I reckon he might have a bit of an issue with concussions as well. Obviously I hope he doesn't but he seems to be pretty susceptible to head knocks that lead to stints on the sideline.

By the end of this year we could be offering him 750k, or we could be bidding him farewell. It will all come down to what he produces in the first half of 2021.

    • Spot on Kram.

Should be a message sent through the squad regarding paying overs for players that aren't aiming up.

      Scott

    • I think you hit it on the head Kram (no pun).....he hasn't lived up to his potential yet.

    • IIRC, Dean was seen as a better player than his older brother, both ended up with the chickens and Dean did not play much in the top team there, Ryan did for a while prior to heading to Wests.

If Dean is at Mounties which was a Canberra pick up, shows that Dean has not progresse further than where he was when at the chickens. As for Dean wanting to play with his bruver does it mean he would be happy to drop back in grade, also would Dean be a good enough player to make the pups team, his recognised position was 5/8, but how good.

The pups have 19 players off contract end of 2021, so they still have money to spend, pay big for Ryan, not a lot for Dean but would the two really end up playing together in the same team?

  • Would rather keep him but not worth getting into a massive bidding war over.

Niukore or Papali'i can take his spot.

  • Where are the dogs getting the money from

    • looks like they have some smart operators in cap management, whilst we offer guys like Alvaro and Evan's 3 year contracts.

      • LOL Chief. The bulldogs have just come out of a 3 or 4 year period where their cap was completely nuked. Looking forward they will be paying 1.2mil per season for their 2 wingers. Sure they might be good wingers, but thats 12% of the cap on only two players, and they are not even spine players.
