Matt McIlwrick retires

He announced his retirement yesterday with little attention from anyone really.  I thought he would of gotten at least one game with us but it never happened.  He played for more club's than hot dinners.  He would have to be up there with Michael Oldfield for the utimate reserve grader title.  Well of the last 10 years anyway.

  • I was surprised to read that he had retired. IMO Matt was a genuine journeyman rugby league player, a tough and resilient hooker who got better this year as Wenty went further into the season and was exceptional in the finals series.

We didn't have the pleasure to cheer you on for long Matt, but thank you for the genuine effort you put in for us mate. I wish you all the best in your future life outside of footy with your wife and kids? If you get itchy feet about April/May and not getting enough PT business? You might consider having a look at playing for a country club and using your local profile to build your PT business Matt.

  • So who is going to be hooker for Wenty?
Schneider has been held back by injury and I think can still play under 20s
    Maybe Will Smith

    • Posssible that Stone may step into the role although I would like to see a play for Buhrer who is off contract at Knights, would be a good fill in and back up for Mahoney.  I would also like to see Schneider have a year that is injury free in the under 20's, the photo's I have seen of him show him a bit light and needs to build up a bit..

- 58.2 PCM/game
- 7.3 tackle brakes a game (highest avg in NSW Cup)
- 19.8 runs/game
- 186.7m/gane
Keep in mind he did not play in the trials because of…"
