Matt McIlwrick

Is on a 1 year contract with Tigers who don't look like having him in their plans for next year.Would he be an upgrade? Don't know much about him but he played well against us.

  • I dont mind him, could be value.
  • He isn't any better than what we have king when fit is ok.
I would not swap him for KP getting noticeably better every week. And has good energy and awareness bit more size and conditioning he is going to be a real gem.
    • KP was more impressive last week
Was looking forward to seeing him as starting hooker this year but a bit underwhelmed initially that KP would develop the footy brains or strength in the tackle to be a starting hooker
      Hope he proves me wrong
    • McIlwrick is a better player than both Kaysa & King put together.

Whilst it's likely that Peats returns, McIlwrick, on current form, would be a handy addition.

      His 2017 stats to date:

      Rd 1 (hooker): 37 minutes, 36m from 3 runs (12m per run), 1 tackle break, 16 tackles & 0 missed tackles.

      Rd 2 (hooker): 43 minutes, 42m from 4 runs (10.5m per run), 1 tackle break, 28 tackles, 1 error, 1 penalty conceded & 1 missed tackle.

      Rd 3 (hooker): 33 minutes, 20m from 2 runs (10m per run), 16 tackles & 1 penalty conceded.

      Rd 4 (hooker): 38 minutes, 51m from 5 runs (10.2m per run), 17 tackles, 1 line-break assist & 0 missed tackles.

      Rd 5 (hooker): 70 minutes, 33m from 3 runs (11m per run), 36 tackles, 2 penalties conceded & 1 missed tackle.

      Rd 6 (hooker): 52 minutes, 71m from 5 runs (14.2m per run), 1 try, 3 tackle breaks, 23 tackles, 2 line-breaks, 1 penalty conceded & 0 missed tackles.

      Rd 7 (hooker): 56 minutes, 75m from 6 runs (12.5m per run), 1 try, 1 tackle break, 23 tackles, 1 offload, 1 line-break & 0 missed tackles.

      Rd 8 (hooker): 48 minutes, 40m from 3 runs (13.3m per run), 30 tackles, 1 penalty conceded & 3 missed tackles.

Overall, McIlwrick is the better player and the stats illustrate that. He takes the line on more from dummy half, has better game awareness, makes good metres and is a much better overall defender.
His dummy half passing is crisper, doesn't look like it's always being passed forward and actually gives the forwards the chance to lay the platform.

Whilst he is by no means a superstar, he is a much better player than Kaysa or King.

    • Good for you rick, you should be apart of the nrl becouse they had kp as hooker of the round with Norman at 7.
But stats are everything good work book worm.
  • He coukd be a good utlity subbing kaysa off etc the 2 of them could make a good hooker rotation on the cheap could afford a good prop and hayne would kill it next year
  • Id still prefer connor watson though kid can play almost anywhere, would be a great utility if chooks let him go due to cap squeeze
    • Tigers apparently chasing Connor for FB
  • How many second string hookers does one team need on their books
  • No need - Peats will be back next year
