Mateo on stand by for Moimoi

Fuifui Moimoi is in doubt for Sunday's clash with Newcastle with Feleti Mateo being placed on standby. Moimoi has been under an injury cloud for the last couple of weeks and almost didn't play against the Bulldogs, before producing what was arguably a career-best performance. He defied doctor's advice to play in that game, so it is still likely that the Eels will run out as named but if he is forced to pull out, Mateo is the player that will replace him with presumably Joe Galuvao or Nathan Hindmarsh to take on more of the prop forward responsibilities. Meanwhile, Kris Keating is expected to return from injury playing for Wentworthville this week at five-eighth, as will Weller Huaraki.

  • thats good for keating, if he plays well for wenty chuck him straight into the first grade side the following week , i hope fui plays, we need him. feleti is great but we dont want him coming into the team because of an injury to a front rower. and a beast of a front rower at that
  • i would prefer to see latimore come onto the bench if moimoi is out. i dont know why wright took his bench spot in the first place?

as for mateo, if he is fit to play, then play him ! if not then dont ! simple. it shouldnt have to be at the expense of moimoi.
    • I think Latimore played himself out of Blue and Gold colours in that Penrith game... Personally, I think Wright has excelled since that game. His line speed is brilliant, he works hard and he's even joining in with the off-loads now.

I'd like Mateo in the side, too. As I say in the match preview, if we get behind I don't know if we have enough points of attack to make a come back. As well as Ben Smith is playing, I'd still prefer to have Mateo at my disposal off the bench if the situation calls for it.
      • I think you are right about Latimore 1Eyed, he was given an offer, but that offer has since been removed off the table
  • hmm. i do like wright as of late, i just thought latimore with his size offerered that little bit more in terms of attack.

well if we get behind we have hayne lol. but i know wot ur saying, lets hope it doesnt get to that!
  • No Moimoi will be very very bad for us...
  • is moimoi likely to play this game, unlikely, 50-50!?!
  • moimoi will pull thru, he has the last 2 weeks under serious doubt. his a warrior. i hope mateo comes in for someone else.
    • Yeh, I agree. Big game he won't want to miss it. I reckon they would need a lock him down with chains to stop him going out there
    • i dont think i'd bring mateo and keating into the side in the same week, rather than cut 2 players, just ease keating and mateo back into the side. i would of liked to see keating named in this game, then mateo in a week or 2
