Manufacturing a Dummy Half

I have had a theory for a while that best hookers in the game are manufactured out of necessity and are not always junior hookers often halves who maybe aren't necessarily great 7s or 6s.Recent examplesCameron smith started as a 7 played his 1st grade debut as a 7 if hed have stayed a 7 he wouldn't of had the career hes had.Farrah was a 6 or 7 all though juniors when playing in the halves in 1st grade hasn't looked goodGranville utility player played a bit of fullback in QLD cupI'm a big Mahoney fan i think he has a bright future but regardless of that who do we have in our squad that could be manufactured in to a 9Id try develop Salmon into a 9 our possibly a Ray stone

  • I’ll throw one out there, Mitch Moses. He’s as quick as Damien Cook, great passing & kicking game, and I think his defence wouldn’t be as exposed in the middle as it is on the edge.

He’d probably never go for it, but ....

    • He could make a fair fist of it, if he really put his mind to succeeding there, would mean he had to recalibrate his brain though.  My thinking is that he could readily interchange between the 7 & 9 with each other through a match, Cronk used to do it at the Storm with Smith as well.

      • He’s already a target, but at least in the middle he’d have more help.

          • He'd need Kaysa to be his backstop at least he can tackle for himself and others.

          • Yes, but those 15 tackles on the edge he is isolated, even though he’d have to make a lot more tackles in the middle, he’d also have a lot more help.

    • Maybe as a 14 build up the middle work load but for me hes a 6 Corey might be handy in thatvrole too
    • Mitch would have to seriously improve his tackling for a move to 9

      • I don’t think it is his tackling that’s the problem per se, it’s the fact that on an edge he gets isolated against giants like Kikau. In the middle he would have a lot more help, plus he would be doing most of his defending out of marker.

    • Yeah Brett he'd be great he'd be great making 50 tackles a game.

    • Not sure with Ma'u but worth trying, the player I would like to see given time in the 9 is Stone, he's been picked there at Wenty and from what I have read has done well in that position, has the mongrel to succeed there I think,
