Michael Maguire's committment to NSW will force him to lose his role as head coach of New Zealand. Two coaches have been shortlisted as replacements are Stacey Jones and Nathan Cayless, with the latter already an assistant coach for the NZ national team. I think if that is the case he should resign from his role as NSW cup coach, he definately cannot do both jobs, it is too hard. NZ national coach is too good for Cayless to pass up, he needs to take it and leave NSW cup behind as he is better than that.

I am being facetious of course. I have a soft spot for Nathan Cayless, he is a club legend, the youngest ever captain of the club, led us to 2 Grand Finals. But as a coach it just has not worked, in his two stints he has not made the finals, even with the Warriors he struggled. Getting the NZ job would be huge for him being a former national captain. Considering they just beat Australia, NZ might want to keep the status quo and hire Cayless to keep stability as he is already an assistant. I hope so as it means we get a new NSW cup coach. More likely Craig Brennan, former Jersey Flegg and now NSW cup assistant coach, will take the reins for Cayless. Brennan did a fine job with Flegg, so hopefully he can perform in Cup, or maybe it might be out of his league but it is more upside than Cayless who has not worked in each of his seasons as a head coach in NSW Cup.

If Cayless is hired, congrats to him. As a legend of the club and country i wish him the best.

  • LOL

  • ***Trigger warning ***You may need to sit down for this LB .

Cayless is a shit coach and was a mediocre captain. We should've kept Jason and punted Nathan .

    • When did i say he was anything more than an average coach? hahaha.

      As a captain i disagree.

    • Some people live a blessed life, during and after their league career.

  • Please take him!

  • Having someone at our club involved in international coaching would be massive positive. It helps in recruitment.

Cayless would form relationships with current international level players or players on edge of selection.   Those relationships could result in 1 or 2 quality signings.  Having current kiwi 5/8 at club with coach is definitely a draw card.

Young kiwi players about to hit grade with massive wraps could also choose parra to form relationship with current international coach.
