Luke Burt the coach?

In my personal opinion, luke burt is the smartest footballer in the game today, and possibly one of the best ever. and i've been thinking a bit recently about how that could possibly transfer into a succesful coaching career. so my question is, do you think he would make a succesful coach? and what would be his best position as part of a coaching staff i.e head coach, assistant, trainer etc. ?

  • I think if Piggy Riddell can become a coach over at the roosters there is certainly room for Burt to find a role somewhere in parramattas coaching ranks. I think he might be best suited to an assistant role where he helps to evaluate video sessions and help devise plans to beat the upcoming team in the next game.

  • The best players don't always make for the best coaches
  • I think it would be somewhat of a foregone conclusion that Burt will be involved with an element of coaching down the track.

I'd say that areas like a trainer or an assistant coach would be a good fit for him, and I sincerely hope that even if he doesn't feel either of those roles upon his retirement from the game, that he remains involved with the Parramatta club to some capacity.
  • Burts too nice to be a coach.

The week before the Gf in 09, he was on the dead set legends and said he would be happy just to make the GF. If I was in a chair I would have fallen out. That comment has always stuck with me. It's unfair to judge his credentials on 1 comment but I don't think he's got it as a head coach.
  • He would be an awesum assistant to any coach. And what about all those games he made kicks trys and won games from pressure kicks on the sideline.
  • I love burty top bloke on and off the field, the club owes a lot to this man.

That said he is not a leader on or off the field as he doesn't have the communication aspect down.

A smart footballer and a smart coach are two very different things, often the greatest or even mildly good players don't have what it takes, Andrew Johns Brad Fitler are some examples. Where as others clearly do like Jason Taylor.

  • 236 according to the telegraph.
  • Piggy is the drinking coach for the young, up and coming dooshbags.
  • I believe his post-footie plan is to become a PE Teacher?  I don't think anybody could argue that it would suit him perfectly.

He probably warrants more, but I think he ultimately deserves to excel at whatever he takes up.. and being such a nice guy, I think he'd get a lot out of working with kids.

  • Burty seems like that type of guy that no matter what he immerses himself in, he'll do a fine job at it.
