From The Sydney Morning Herald...

Melbourne’s pursuit of Zac Lomax could prove more costly than expected if the NRL deems the club’s promise to cover the exiled winger’s legal bills should be included in the Storm’s salary cap.

Parramatta began legal proceedings to prevent Lomax from joining the Storm, given his release from a four-year contract was contingent on the Eels providing written consent. The Blues winger was granted a release to join rebel rugby competition R360, but has been left in limbo after its inaugural season was put back until 2028.

Lomax’s hopes of making his Melbourne debut against former club Parramatta in the opening round have been thwarted after his court hearing was scheduled to end a day after the AAMI Park clash.

According to court documents made available last week, the Eels claim the Storm indemnified Lomax’s court expenses.

      • Swap out Jackson Ford for Marata then. Ford is a goer who is from Wollongong I believe.

  • Many in the media are saying it could be resolved on the steps of the court, meaning agreement made before court date. I just do not see that happening.

Both teams have done things in spite of the other, it has gotten so bitter neither one will cave unless forced to. If Eels win, Storm more likely just brush their hands and move on. Imagine being hellbent In not letting go for a player then giving us a player for him? Thats a loss to them. As long as they get Lomax for somewhat their terms that's a win for them, they couldn't care less about the court case or how they look.

Parra won't also back down on what they want. So I do not see how there is an end to this other than Melbourne moving on elsewhere. Making it a "you didn't dump me, I dumped you" scenario.

    • I predict the Storm will dump Lomax prior to the court date. At the moment they have nothing on the line except for a promise to finance Lomax' legal bills. That would be a rounding error for Tripp's bank account. Given his experience in the wagering industry, he will know when to dump before his odds of winning are no longer in his favour.

  • If you look at storm team list for their trials, you can see why they desperately want Lomax. 0 depth at the club so they are panicking and being desperate

  • Does anyone wonder how Munster bought a Pub in prime real estate? Hmmmmmm

  • I'm sick of all the attention this bloke is getting. Go play bush footy for 3 years. End of story. You made your bed - now sleep on it..The NRL and the Storm can well and truely go get f.....
