Hi All,

A friend of mine passed away yesterday aged 58.  Went for a walk at 10am and never came home having a massive Heart Attack and dropping where he stood.  He leaves behind a wife, 3 kids, grand kids and a loyal bunch of mates.  Last thing on his mind was dying and just doing a simple walk and his number was up.   Hearing Col is not well and battling his health issues - it makes you realise that we are all on this planet for a very short time and that it can be taken away from you in the blink of an eyelid.

I walked out of bankwest on Sunday filthy with the loss, jumping on here, whinging, whining and trying to make sense of this team, this club and the lack of success for 36 years.  But now a few days later, PERSPECTIVE has once again hit me between the eyes and reality is that if Parra loses, I still have my life, my family, my friends.  Life moves on and so do we . Parra will get us excited once again and will disappoint us plenty more times.  But it is a sport.  It is an escape and one I have very little or no control over.

I have another friend who is 45, legally blind , got dagnosed with throat cancer two months ago, in the process of Radiation, Chemo etc.   Two Saturdays ago whilst at his sons sport, trips and break both wrists.  Two arms in plaster. Hopefully he beats this cancer this time, but in a few years he will be totally blind.  The kicks keep coming.  NEVER EVER WHINGES . He just turns up and gets on with it.

Not trying to depress people but Just highlighting there is always someone worse off than You, always someone better and Parramatta will always give us the roller coaster ride each and every season.

Finally,  kiss your kids , wife, inlaws and dont take this for granted.   You will never have enough money, never have enough time, never be skinny enough, never have the best car - the list could be ten pages long.   Only thing is you control the person looking back at you in the mirror each and every day.

For those out there suffering in pain or battling illness like Col - I wish you well. This road called life is a tough one and unpredictable.

    • Exactly, well said Brissy

  • PT, good blog mate, Know how you feel as life on this earth has many rocky moments. When we lose someone close and their age is not that old its often hard to take.

Hang in mate, both in the person aspect and as an eels supporter, bare in mind that RL is only a sport and both enjoyable and frustrating to say the least,

  • Sorry to hear about your mates PT. Hope all is well with you.

Words of wisdom although not too sure about kissing my inlaws.

  • Great Blog bud. Sorry to hear about your mate, condolences to the families.

Your CORRECT Parra lossing is not that big of a deal. I think as fans were pissed off and use the forum to vent. Blame everything and everybody.

Thanks for bringing all back into perspective.

  • I hear you mate, I lost my sister not long ago, she left 3 kids, a husband and parents who will never recover from their loss.

I was at the Dragons game, there was a time when I would be devastated from a loss, now I'm just disappointed for a minute.

In the perfect world, my sister should have been around for at least another 40 years and at least, should have outlived our parents. But we don’t live in a perfect world and we can’t choose our fate. I understand our family is not unique, shit things happen to many families and at some point, everyone suffers a loss regardless of expected order,

The sun may shine today but you may not make hey tomorrow, prioritise the ones you love first and foremost, I relate to your message Paul, enjoy footy, celebrate the good times but understand that wasting negative emotions on a sport pales into insignificance when confronted with genuine loss.

I wish your friend the best possible outcome with his battle, life can be so unfair. Condolences for the loss of your friend.

    • Sorry to hear about your sister mate, sorry for your loss, blessings to you all.

      • Thanks Snake, your post means a lot to me, I know you are no stranger to loss. Wishing you all the best.
