Let's support our players

Tonight I was at anz stadium. It's not my favourite ground. Nonetheless, being there afforded me the opportunity to better see the raw deal that parra copped from the refs tonight. The bulldogs spent the first half offside, wrestling and lifting in the tackles. Yet there were some up fathomable penalties given. On cue I was able to turn to the people with me and say here comes a penalty. It was so predictable. However I don't want to focus on that aspect of the game. I'd rather praise the players for a wholehearted effort. Yes there were some bad blunders but nobody slacked off, nobody gave less than their all. I won't bag a player who tries his guts out on the field. I might bag a coach for selecting an out of form player. I think any player that puts on the Eels jumper and tries his guts out will deservedly have my support. Let's get behind the boys in these last few weeks and show them how much we appreciate having a competitive team to follow.

  • It will be really disappointing if we don't make the finals. Every year you hope for a premiership and if not that, at least a spot in the finals.
We just missed out in 1996. That was really disappointing. I'm hoping we somehow scrape into the 8 over the next few weeks but it could well be another 1996 for us.

To lose to the Dogs isn't a shameful thing. To come close and to have it snatched away hurts. It's much better than not turning up and getting smacked by 40.

We have come a very long way this year. Who would have though we'd be talking about maybe making the finals this year? We all dreamed but nobody really gave us a hope.

There are much better days ahead. We have a good coach and we're building a good side.

    • Were you there? Did you see the dogs offside? Did you see the rubbish piggyback penalties. It's not about cheating it's about refs either going into games with preconceived ideas about how a team will play or the types of tactics they will use and then refereeing by those idea rather than what goes on! There were other absurd decisions that were the result of taking their eyes off the play for example the Ryan Morgan play on that was called back. It's not good enough. The eels have suffered bad calls that have cost points this year. We have not had the match winning benefit of any. All teams get dud calls but it's normally swings and roundabouts. We've not got the rub of the green at any stage!
  • I was there sixties and I was on an angle to the players so I couldn't see if they were offside or not. I was down on the try line where the doggies scored twice. Not getting up off our line I think cost us the game and BA would be dissappointed in that. I could see Tollman was getting the ball 5 minutes before he did. There was plenty of time for a defender to get off the line and put a shot on him with or without the ball. There was one lifting tackle that should have been a penalty that was no different to juniors last week if not worse. I don't understand how after having the refs at our training sessions and having sandow that has kicked more 40/20s than anyone how we didn't get it right. Our boys were not happy after the game they will come back better. Proud of our young team last night Moeroa etc all played well. They are testing themselves against the best and won't be long before they get the upper hand. Go parra
  • As I was at the game too, while a loss is hard to swallow, what is HARDER to swallow was the level of inept refereeing and worse still the completely one sided adjudicating .

As SIXTIES said, there were so many times when the Bulldogs players were so obviously offside .... I can name James Graham as the main offender (he is very easy to pick out!!).  On virtually every set when Parramatta were bringing the ball back from their own 20, Graham would make a tackle, be returning to the defensive line, NEVER get back on side (he would be smack bang between the markers and the 10 meter defensive line) and he would MAKE THE NEXT TACKLE !!!

I can't tell you how many times the supporters all our noticed this and were blowing up.

Not only were BOTH referees incompetent in policing this, but the touch judge (the "flag boys" .... that one's for you SIXTIES!!!) also failed to do anything.

Let's not forget in the second half when Morgan was tackled, BOTH Bulldogs players fall off the tackle, Morgan goes to continue his run (as he is entitled to do) BOTH the match ref and pocket ref are NOT watching the game and call Morgan back to play the ball!!

The lifting in tackles from  the Bulldogs .... I can't believe they were allowed to get away with it. Especially in the second half, on a number of occasions you could PLAINLY see the Parramatta players legs ABOVE the horizontal and NOTHING was done!!

While I feel for us fans that we had to put up with seeing this unfold before our eyes, I feel even more for the players, coach and staff who bust a gut for us, put in 100% only to have the result rest on the incompetent shoulders of the "men in pink".
