We just missed out in 1996. That was really disappointing. I'm hoping we somehow scrape into the 8 over the next few weeks but it could well be another 1996 for us.
To lose to the Dogs isn't a shameful thing. To come close and to have it snatched away hurts. It's much better than not turning up and getting smacked by 40.
We have come a very long way this year. Who would have though we'd be talking about maybe making the finals this year? We all dreamed but nobody really gave us a hope.
There are much better days ahead. We have a good coach and we're building a good side.
As I was at the game too, while a loss is hard to swallow, what is HARDER to swallow was the level of inept refereeing and worse still the completely one sided adjudicating .
As SIXTIES said, there were so many times when the Bulldogs players were so obviously offside .... I can name James Graham as the main offender (he is very easy to pick out!!). On virtually every set when Parramatta were bringing the ball back from their own 20, Graham would make a tackle, be returning to the defensive line, NEVER get back on side (he would be smack bang between the markers and the 10 meter defensive line) and he would MAKE THE NEXT TACKLE !!!
I can't tell you how many times the supporters all our noticed this and were blowing up.
Not only were BOTH referees incompetent in policing this, but the touch judge (the "flag boys" .... that one's for you SIXTIES!!!) also failed to do anything.
Let's not forget in the second half when Morgan was tackled, BOTH Bulldogs players fall off the tackle, Morgan goes to continue his run (as he is entitled to do) BOTH the match ref and pocket ref are NOT watching the game and call Morgan back to play the ball!!
The lifting in tackles from the Bulldogs .... I can't believe they were allowed to get away with it. Especially in the second half, on a number of occasions you could PLAINLY see the Parramatta players legs ABOVE the horizontal and NOTHING was done!!
While I feel for us fans that we had to put up with seeing this unfold before our eyes, I feel even more for the players, coach and staff who bust a gut for us, put in 100% only to have the result rest on the incompetent shoulders of the "men in pink".
