A Great Left Center Option

Nick Meaney would be one of the first players I'd be trying to recruit for the Left Center position if I was Ryles. He is a gun in both defence and attack, can play Fullback and wing if needed, and has been a part of a very good system at Melbourne.

I'd imagine he'd be on a conservative contract at Storm as he's not one of the big stars, which means if we offer him a decent 3 year contract he could be open to moving.

Not too many better options out there than Meaney imo.

  • Sure, see great player, look for connection and say "Sign him" rinse and repeat with new talent. Not that easy.

    • Not saying it would be easy, but definitely worth pursuing.

      • Well i mean sure, but Meaney i reckon would only leave Melbourne to play Fullback. Not saying this is you Clint, but many here see someone play a good game and shout "Sign him". Talakai is the poster child of that. It is something that irritates me as it just reactionary or just simply think it is simple then get disappointed when we don't get said player and use it as ammo to abuse the club more.

        Meaney would have to request a release and Melbourne need to accept it or wait til 2027.

        • I think he'd move for 2 reasons;

          1. Opportunity: As you said, to play fullback for a decent team. He would love to a bottom 4 team, looks to competitive to do that, but he would move for a better position.
          2. Money: He's sacrificed a few years at Storm and now's the time to capitalise on it. I don't think it would be anything crazy, just a good salary paying his worth, and we have the money to do that right now.

          This is Storm's best chance for a title in years, if they win the GF, mark my words, that entire backline will be looking for upgrades if the Pearth Bears aren't already a chance at getting them.

          • Yeah but wont move for us.

  • I have been thinking since the second half of the season that Russell is developing into the type of player Meaney is

    • Defensively I tend to agree, but he offers little in attack and is an absolute handbrake with JAC outside of him. We need to capitalise on any half breaks we get, do you think Russell will be able to do that? I'm not confident.

  • Most storm players that leave that system are average in other teams

  • Hes peaked.

    What an upper mid tier player chuck money at.

    Lets Bank on the next big thing.

  • Why sign Meaney when you can sign Jack Bird for half the price? Hahahahahahaha
