It's a fact in life that when things are going your way your way at work, you have to work harder. Sacrifice personal time alot of the time.
From a personal perspective and proven time again and again, kicking and screaming isnt the solution. It makes a bad situation worse.
In the sales field which I'll draw an example.
1)First there would be one on one's with the employees. There you would have a chat how the individual is doing? Is his performance to their personal standard? Is there something that is pulling them back? Are they missing tool that would help them to the job better and more effectively? What personal KPI have they set themselves and how do they relate to those of the company and why they are not hitting them. You then ask them if they have idea's on improving the company.
2) A group meeting where everyone can throw in their 2 cents and discuss and argue with management and their colleagues what can be done to improve the situation. Make it casual with coffee and snacks.
3) Management to think of incentives or ask the salespeople what incentive they would like to make work more enjoyable.
4) Mangement to organise a do, usually a dinner where people can talk about things either work or non work related to bond outside working hours.
