Personally I don't really mind this..his a rocks and diamonds player.Liability in defence and to many errors a game.Just a backup player at best.with sua taking his spot this is what our 27 side will prob look like before future signings and what we know now.

                    • It's a good strategy to adopt, are there any limitations on front loading deals?

                    • It's at the NRLs discretion. They have to approve all player contracts and have previously denied heavily frontloaded or backended contracts if it looks like an attempt to circumvent the salary cap.

So basically it's up to VLandys and how much he likes you...

                    • I hope we've got a bit of that going on with someone like Moses and the other way around with someone like Iongi

              • No but in principle Cappy is right, as you are in saying what you have said.

The ambiguity of the process is Cappy's point and that is valid.....saying that gets us nowhere just the same. Cheika  is a true businessman, who understands the constraints but also be commercial savy, would know how to handle a board and the way they think.

His football qualifications are enhanced and I think with Ryles and his retrospective Rugby backgrounds they could work well together.

He was of course an original applicant for the coaching job but he is bigger than that worrying him and he would be a much greater force than MON.....I would even keep him on for the lessor duties described if there are any loyalty factors......i.e do the job he does without that title and the responsibilities as listed.

Cheika is a genuine General Manager, not a puppet one!

          • Sort of. Head of recruitment and GM of football would discuss with Head coach about what type of player(s) they want. Then take the information to get the players that suit what the coach wants. Ryles could say let's get this guy but head of recruitment and GM also need to provide a list of who they could target. Ryles gets final say that "We have player A or player B that fit what you want, which do you prefer?" then Ryles will say either A or B and they attempt to get them.

It is all involved. Ryles, O'Neill, Rogers etc. Remember it was Ben Rogers who brought up to chase Iongi, not Ryles.

  • Kautoga needs to be out of the Fkn team his a fkn plodder !

    • Jury's out on Kautoga . He's raw but looks disinterested sometimes.  Much like Sivo.

      • He's 23 with 24 First Grade games under his belt. He is also signed through to the end of 2027.

I think he should have until the end of this season to show what he's capable of on a consistent basis. Before his injury last year, he was quite a handful on the left edge (albeit, outside D Brown at the time).

        • Agreed, Kautonga's still very young and inexperienced. We have seen glimpses of what he is capable of, but clearly needs much more development. Ideally he'd spend some stints in Cup honing certain skills, but we don't have anybody to take his place.

        • Most of his first grade games came last year when really he shouldn't have been playing first grade yet, well not as much as he did at least.

He is very raw and should have been slowly introduced to first grade over last season and this but the club is in such a poor position he was fast tracked.

I'm not giving up on him yet, whilst I don't think he is ever going to be a star i think he could develop into a consistent first grader that occasionally has a big game.
