Keating in no hurry

Reports that Kris Keating is as good as signed with the Bulldogs are off-the-mark, with the Parramatta half remaining firm with his desire to concentrate on football rather than contracts at this stage of the season.

As I've noted previously, my sources have indicated that Keating is not looking at signing any contract in the short term, and is hoping to show what he is capable of in the NRL prior to making any decisions. This has since been verified in mainstream media reports. I've checked-in again this morning and I'm told there is no change with Keating's position.

I can confirm that the Bulldogs recently met with Keating's manager David Riolo and that the Eels have an offer on the table. However, any decision on Keating's future is likely to be months away.

  • Best news, thanks Phil.
  • Where there's smoke there's usually fire. And at the moment there is smoke coming from not just 1 source, say a Phil Rothfield or Danny Weidler article but from multiple media outlets that are reporting this. I would say KK will be in blue and white in 2011 without a doubt.

I would have to say that on the face of it Parra have made a couple of massive blunders recruitment and retention wise in the lead up to this. Not going in to it now. Wait and see what happens....
  • resign Kevin Kingston for 2011
  • You could understand why Kris K would move to another club considering we have just signed Mortimer and have Robson till end 2011, means he is a 2nd string player.
In saying that Dogs have Ben Barba as their backup (who i rate highly), they dont need Keating. He is only gonna be on the bench there too...
  • Did you watch Panthers game on weekend, Kingston was not good at all??
  • I was reading recently - the Herald I think it was – the Dogs were chasing forwards, namely Lima and another bloke from the Storm. I think they'd also dearly love to have Morris Number 2 from the Dragons. So really is KK a priority for them? I'm also certain (like every other club) they're up against the salary cap. I was nosing about on their supporter's site a couple of weeks ago (is it called the Kennel???) and trust me, none of their fans were too enthusiastic about KK. Or is this more about trying to piss off Eels supporters?
    • PS I notice on the news tonight that Hannatt's not going anywhere. So there goes $300K on their salary cap.
  • Mate, it's more a case of one media outlet reporting and everyone else jumping on the bandwagon. I can tell you with great confidence that no agreement has been reached with any club at this stage and there is a lot of water to flow under the bridge between now and when Kris makes a decision. Now, in the end he may go to the Bulldogs but I'm sure they are also waiting to see what becomes of their halves. Right now, you probably wouldn't want to swap any young half in the country for Ben Barba. I think its a given they will re-sign him which means that regardless of what happens with Kimmorley who I also think will play another year, Kris is going to have more competition at the Bulldogs than he will at Parramatta.

To me, all the situational evidence would point to him staying at Parramatta. If he can step his game up the one notch he needs to hold down a starting position, he'll have at the very least and medium-term future playing alongside Daniel Mortimer in the halves and playing along side his brother. When you're looking at your next two years as a 22 year old, surely thats got to be your priority.

Who knows he may hit white-hot form and some other club may join in the running. All I'm telling you, is there ain't going to be any contract announcements any time soon.
    • i hope they dont waste too much time on kk we may loose mateo
  • My take on this is that he realises he will get good game time in the NRL and he wants to put a few good performances in before he signs on a dotted line to jack up his price.

If this is the case, he is as good as gone.
