Just Announced!!!

THE NRL has stripped the Parramatta Eels of all competition points for the 2016 season, in possibly the toughest punishment for salary cap breaches in NRL history.NRL chief Todd Greenberg has just announced the extraordinary penalty, after it was uncovered that the club under its current board has been organising Third Party payments directly for its players and also funneling funds throught associated companies. They will not be able to accrue any more points this season, have been fined $500,000 and have a further $2,000,000 suspended fine pending constitutional reform and Board Members standing down.Advertisement"" style="margin: 0px auto; padding: 0px; font-size: 0px; display: block; border: 0px; vertical-align: bottom;">EmailFacebookGoogle PlusTwitterWhatsapp"The elaborate lengths that they went to to hide the payments was quite extraordinary," Greenberg said. "These payments have allowed them to recruit and retain some of the best players in the game. There's no alternative for the NRL in terms of penalty.""The breakthrough in the investigation was the discovery by the salary cap auditor and his team of a file in the Eels network shared drive, which contained the players' contracts and TPAs.""the Eels maintained a dual file system, with side letters promising extra payments stored in the secret file on the shared drive, apparently unaware that the drive was not personal and indeed shared. The contracts have been structured in such a way that it would appear the contracts were not apparent to all Parramatta Eels Board members."The penalty far exceeds that imposed on Canterbury in 2002 and is on par with the one handed to the Melbourne Storm in 2010.The Eels will now have 28 days to refute, debate or accept the punishment handed down by the NRL.
