Junior Nursery

I gather most people on this site are from Sydney.

I am a member and have travelled down basically every second week from Bathurst to watch our team play. Really our season has not been that flash, well thats football but we did have a very talented football team on the field week in week out, so it is disappointing to miss the finals but after last year every team was gunning for us.

My question is this from here in the country we hear Parramatta has the best rugby league nursery in Australia, can anyone in Sydney please tell me why our Under 20s are coming last and lets be honest they don't play very well either.

Shouldn't our 20s be in the top 8 with the size and quality of the junior nersery?

Also by the way us Bathurst boys are renewing our memberships for next season.

  • Our Harold Matthew and SG ball teams both made the gf's so I think the NYC just went through a bit of a transition period. Allgood, Mitchell, Mortimer, Kelly all became too old. Johnson left the club. They were our halves, hooker and front towers the years prior so it's going to impact. Next year we should improve.
  • The under 20s were made up of 17 year olds... Its cool. Remember that we have dominated the junior comps and come up with nothing in the senior team. The people in charge know what they are doing. If we sign some decent havles we will all be saying what a wonderful club we have.
  • Thanks guys, it just seemed odd, we don't get any news out here about Harold mathews or S.G Ball. The 20s seem to have a few good individual players but as a complete team really struggled. I look forward to 2011 when both first and 20s make the top 8. Cheers boys.
  • they all play for manly now.......
  • So is the issue our recruitment officer, who ever that is.
  • mick, between parra and penrith they contribute majority of junior talent. Crusher used to be our talent scout and was good at what he did, we need someone to replace him, someone who can identify talent at an early age and then lock them in for the future. perfect example was jamie lyon, problem was crusher left and the rest is history.
  • i think you will find parra are at odds with the nrl over what determines a long term player to get salary cap concessions.we have led the way over the years in junior development only to lose players we should be keeping,i believe they have pulled a lot away from their junior development why be a breeding nursery for manly and the sharks,we do the hard work they reap the rewards
