Josh Curran

There is some mail doing rounds that the player Buzz & Adrian Proszenko were referring to is in fact Josh Curran. While nothing is near confirmed, he defintely fits the criteria of being a 'very good middle/edge' and is someone who defintely who fit within Ryles system.

If true, I would assume it would not be announced until the conclusion of the 2025 season. Ultimately, as the last thing the Bulldogs need is more talk around player movements. This would also explain the silence.

It is important to note this is not confirmed, just some mail going around and aligns with initial reports.

      • Wasn't having a go at you mate or anyone just my personal opinion lol. Let's hope we snare someone decent

        • Oh no no, didn't think that Kendoza. More just wanted to clarify do not take my word as gospel that Riki is the player or even a target. Purely mentioned elsewhere.

          • 👍

  • Curran to me is not a big name and we already have enough of these style of players. Ww need an alpha top of the list is Tino. Curran would be lucky to make the 17.

  • It's all about $$, Curran, Riki, Fifita, they all

make us better. The price has to be right though.

Riki realistically should probably be cheapest unless you get a discount on David Fifita due to tip ins from GC.
Id be worried Curran would try inflate his price, which would be why he is available in the first place.

Best option is a discounted David Fifita.

    • Riki is a NZ international, constant starter and played in a GF. Curran is a consistent 17 player either bench or starting.

No way Riki is cheaper than Curran.

      • What do you think both are worth LB?

        • I mean spitballing, but Riki could get $500-600k at least on open market. Curran around $350-450k range. To get Curran out of Dogs you may pay starter money but Riki would be more in demand due to potential and since he is an actual edge.

Curran can play edge but is more of a middle.

          • I don't disagree that you are worth what someone is willing to pay you and that a team would probably pay that. But. A team that pays Riki 600k will struggle. That is a lot of money for a back rower. Riki doesn't really do anything amazingly well. Pretty well rounded but is still maturing. For example Katoa, Martin, Crichton, Nikora, Kikau, Young, all these guys are a tier above Riki and not all of them would be payed 600k.

If he is asking for 600k it's a hard pass.

            • Young, potential, teams would pay.

All the names listed i reckon are all, if not very close to $600k. Most if not more. Kikau is reported $800k, as is Crichton. Nikora and Young reported $650k. Martin reported $750k.

Katoa cannot find his reported figures.

Riki is an International, that will raise his price. For Edge back-rowers you are paying top dollar. You said $600k is a lot for a back-rower yet out of the 6 examples all are over $650k, most well over. Throw in Olakau'atu reported $900k, Koloamatangi $650k, KPP was on $600k with Newcastle.

Su'A reported $700k, Fainu at Wests is on reported $500k. Nanai reported $775k. Niukore even got $825k apparently. Fifita $1mil.

You say still maturing, that is the reason teams will go for him. Over 100 games and an International. Look at the price for back-rowers, you have to pay for a decent one and Riki classifies as decent.

"Well any club would pay more for Riki than Garner. Riki is a constant starter, Garner is from starting to bench and back again. Plus age too. You'd pay more for a 25 year old than a 31 year old.
But Riki has potential to be in the Kikau and Young…"

"Haha, PG. I've almost recovered from the BA era. One thing admirable about Ryles is he won't cop the entitlement stunts and sneganans of that era. It's probably screwed our cap by $3m or so, but by it'll get cleared up soon enough.
