Jenkins to the Eels?

Some early Friday morning scuttlebutt on Facebook saying Eels have made an offer to sign Thomas Jenkins from the Panthers. I really have no idea if this is true or the validity behind the rumours, but this is a signing I can definitely get behind. Hopefully we've made him a great offer that puts Penrith in a difficult position to retain him. They have Tago and To'o on around $800k each, Alomoti and McClean on moderate deals, so it's a stacked backline and someone's gotta go, and they can't keep them all.

Jenkins is young and has a great career ahead of him, if we storm in with slightly overs for 3+ years it will be a great investment because we're shit at developing wingers. Let's hope this rumour is true 🤞

  1. Iongi
  2. Addo-Car
  3. Nanva
  4. Penisini
  5. Jenkins

That's a solid backline to build on.

    • This is the way

  • would love this to be true but chief says it close so we have no chance as chief is laways wrong

    • yep that ^
      LOL

  • I like it. Excited to see it if it happens. I would consider moving fox to the right wing with Penisini. Get Tago to play next to Jenkins and you have a great backline

    • This and you don't have to muck around with a new combination bar whoever they decide to play 6.They have both no doubt have trained and played together for years at multiple levels this is the quickest way.Fox is adaptable enough to move to the other side.

  • Reportedly Penrith can only offer $350k

    • Parra need to be smart and pay overs to make the decision for him. You might consider taking $350k in a Premiership team, but you're not going to walk away from an extra $200k per year over 3 years.

Offer $575k per year over 3 years and get it done ✅

      • But we shouldn't be stupid and pay too much over.

        • Love that quote LB.

I'm over buying clubs leftovers when we miss our first choice targets, though.

          Lets put this into perspective.

Last 5 years we have made the top 4 once.

Last 10 years we have made the top 4, 3 times

Last 15 years we have made the top 4 , still the 3 times

Lets go the last 21 years and yep we have only finished in the top 4 , 3 times

          Thats a terrible terrible precedence.

If we keep doing what we have always done, how are we going to ever be relevant come the business time of the year. I think we may be kidding ourselves, if we arnt prepared to pay overs to get the ball rolling nd recruit some real talent around Mitch, Iongi, Addo Carr, Hoppy and Williams.

I can't believe that the last 21 years , top 4 only 3 times. when that sinks in for me, it truely shows how inept our recruitment / retention has been. Playing it safe sees us safely rooted to the bottom, it appears.

          • Though if you are to overpay it's for players that can make more of a difference. Keaon I didn't mind paying slight overs for as middles are so important today. But you also do not want to go too over the top as it puts your cap out of wrack and you cannot get quality elsewhere.
