The worst thing about Rugby League is the refereeing. It has been that way since 1908. The figures that Jarryd mentioned are appalling. They could not happen by chance. To win the penalty count only three times in twenty three games is extraordinary. There is something other than football going on. My solution is to eliminate referees entirely. Using modern technology it ought to be possible to do. If all players wore GPS vests in the games it would be possible to know at every instant where every player was located on the football field. If the football had an infa-red reflecting coating, the position of the ball at every instant could be located on the football field. Marry those two technologies together by computer then you have achieved the basis for eliminating the human referee. There is, of course, a massive amount of work required to produce a practical working system. It would require scientists, mathematicians, computer experts and technologists to achieve the elimination of human referees. Perhaps people power can induce one or two of those fat- faced billionaires to do something useful with the money Daddy left them with? There is still a chance they can get through the eye of the needle!!! I have other ideas on this but they should be in the hands of the people that I mentioned

special effects were so poor, was it a spielberg sponsored movie
The fact that referees waste their time pre season training to call whether the ballboy passed or put down the ball is enough to say their priorities are messed up.
LMFAO Robert
The video refs can't use the equipment they have now, how the hell do you expect the NRL and refs to understand this?
There is something called education. It may mean employing people with a few brains. I think you and others are missing the point. As I envisage it, there will be no human element deciding if there was rule breach. That is the prerogative of the system. But you all are jumping the gun. It is a concept only at this time. As Mao said :" A great journey begins with a small step."
By any chance did you bring back the Gray's Sports Almanac?
I know. We'll call the system SkyNet!
Seriously, you are simply taking the refs off the field and replacing them with IT specialists who have to monitor each and every play from a control room.
The breakdown in play will be so tedious the players and fans will leave through frustration.
Blue and Gold read my response to Sir Col. What are the fans doing now? I don`t see them leaving in frustration but they are not turning up. Frustrated by the refereeing would be a cause of that.
Blue and Gold as I see it there will be perhaps one or two attending to the computer, if it is needed but will not be watching the play as part of their duties. They may watch the play the relieve the tedium!! I would hope that a back up system would be in place which would switch in automatically if the prime system went down. The system would make all the decisions that it can. No decision by any human being, if possible. The referees would go as such , maybe the linemen too. The Video Refs can plan for early retirement now if they wish!
