        • 600 million of Australian Tax Payer money which will go to the NRL to use as they please. Some of this will go into PNG. Some of it will be used to buy more assets for the NRL. At the end of the day, this team will be successful based on the fact they will always have nearly double the money to spend on players under their cap. Even if its for only 2-3 years, you will see alot of players in their prime go on their own for a short contract to gain what they can in 6 years for 3 years, possibly more, as most players start low and end low, most of their income is made in the middle of their career. This will be impossible for established clubs to compete with the money on offer. Power houses like Roosters, Penrith, Broncos will have the constant ability to fight for a premiership, this will maintain their attraction. Lower tier clubs like Dragons, Titans, Tigers will struggle to sign anyone unless they offer double the players worth to get close to PNG offers. Im worried the Bears will fail before they even begin. You have PNG in 2028 competing for a premiership and Bears will be competing for the spoon...

          • Only thing is to get tax free yoh have to be living there apparently. So players can't keep family in Australia and earn a quick paycheck. Not sure how many players will want to uproute completely and if they do, for how long?

  • Give PNG Ryan Matterson's contact details...

    • He is not our problem next year. Don't think even a RM would touch him

  • V'landys basically said the tax free will be for 10 years. He also said he understands the other clubs not happy but hes job is to look after the game. He's an arrogant prick the sooner himself and the springbok gimp go the better. I've never met an honest south african ever.

    • How does he figure this is looking after the game?? What a moronic statement for him to sprout. This does zilch to help the game, in fact the opposite.

      • Agreed. He's just an arrogant prick

    • He and the NRL do not care about PNG. They want that government money over 10 years. If they didn't have it they would never of entertained PNG.

My question is, the money is great to start but is it sustainable once it is up and running with lifestyle. Some will love it, but I wonder if more will dislike it. Even Luai got a PO in the final year to get out if he is over it, he even has that in the back of his mind.

All it takes is one fight in the squad, one family to get unsettled and then the wheels to fall off. Money is great but not all players put in once they get the money either. At the moment they are targeting players in their 30's, ones that want one last pay day and have experience. Liam Martin seems to be next and he would be 31 once getting there.

      • Thats true. Another thing that will eventually annoy the players is png isn't like sydney. They can't just jump in their cars and go to a restaurant or a beach in peace they will get mobbed everywhere they go. I can't see luai wanting to hang around the compound all day.

My mate works for hobson engineering and he worked for a bit in png. He told me you simply can't go out at night its a very dangerous place. Told me yesterday that they are kidding themselves if they think they will have the best security for the players

        • Media saying they will be treated like gods. All it takes is one lunatic to hold the family to ransom for money, these players will have it. Ask Hannah Hollis, she lived there when younger as her parents were journo's there and she was involved in hold up, particularly on a tram.

Not saying a player will be held at gun point but doubt them being famous will make them 100% safe.
