It's Only 1 Match!!!!

Can everyone please take a step back and realise that it's only Round 1. I've been reading so much negativity all ready and the season has barely started. On Friday night it was wet and slippery on the field with Hayne and Willie Tonga missing. An 85% Reni Maitua and Ben Roberts only played just over half the match. Calm down. This type of panic and suggestions of dropping Burt or dropping Keating isn't needed right now. It's not like we're halfway through this season and we've only won 2 matches due to Hayne brilliance. The team competed for the majority of the match and was only killed off by a good try by Hannant. Not to mention Peter Wallace's arsey kick and re-gather. The team is yet to play on a dry track with a fit spine. Give it a few more matches before passing judgement on the team. The season is not won nor lost in the first match of the season.

In the words of Liverpool F.C's legendary manager, Bill Shankly: "IF YOU CAN'T SUPPORT US WHEN WE DRAW OR LOSE THEN DON'T SUPPORT US WHEN WE WIN."

  • AMEN BROTHER!

  • Thats just it, take a 'step back' and looking at the bigger picture. Do you propose we ignore lessons learnt last season?

The second half perfomance whether wet or dry was much too reminiscent of those games last year where we let the lead fall away. The team needs to demonstrate a full 80 min high caliber perfomance to renew out faith in the side! Heres hoping that happens.

    • I know what you're saying and I'm not sayingto forget what happened last year. I'm merely stating that this season is a new season and that the players getting bagged don't deserve it.

  • I am borderline with that mate. I think the players need to hear it more, they are talking positives in the post match conference...where does a team stand if the players go ahead thinking they were still competing in the second half of play there, there is no real reason for them not to think they can trudge along in the last 30 mins come next round.

The next few rounds may or may not attest to this. Lets see.

But IMHO, Its time for kearney to get mad, stop being so easy on the "lads" and do his job as a coach. Yes praise players for good perfomance but hell you have to be dish up constructive critisism too and I think they deserve an ear bashing after letting that lead go.

    • They were in the game until Roberts went off. With 2/3 of our star trio out it was pretty much back to last season with Sandow trying to win the game single handedly. Give the boys another couple of games before supporters begin to abandon a sinking ship.

  • i like this blog, very true. But some people are saying that If we play like we did in Round 1 we will be going no where.

  • Good Onya super eel when we win don't praise them. Your with or without its through it all. Watch if we beat warriors everyone say how good we were. These weak ppl can't fuck off.
  • Some new stats.

    Penalties Awarded for round 1

    Home team 1st

    Knights 4 v Dragons 3

    Eels 6 v Broncos 9

    Raiders 6 v Storm 4

    Panthers 10 v Dogs 8

    Cowboys 7 v Titans 7

    Tigers 7 v Sharks 7

    Souths 8 v Roosters 6

    can you see the anomaly?

    • Yes........Referees are so Concern about Penalty Count Being as Even as possible, They all do the nit pick get square penalty, every time.

Pull the Penalty counts from the past 20 years and see how close if Not even they all are..year in and year Out.

No  Conspiracy , JUST FACT !!!!

  • It's one match that continues where we left off last year is the problem. SLippery has nothing to do with it, it rained on both teams. Our one try was just as lucky as Wallace was, in fact if we were not lucky on that play it would have been 18 nil.

"I have no doubt Ryles would be interested.
One thing about Fifita that often gets lost in the narrative is he's a quality defender.
Hes big and agile , exactly the type of player Ryles would be after.
This is another  player you could possibly do a…"

"Rushing him back via the bench though. Johns and Lockyer brought up his form is not up to scratch for a little bit. Could it have been Holbrook being sacked that hindered him? He like Holbrook, nearly going to Roosters where he is assistant.
