It is disappointing for other reasons

So with the news that possibly (not offically announced by Parra themselves which not sure they will) his assistants have re-signed meaning Arthur will go into 2022 with same crew to improve upon a different 2021 campaign.

The thing i am disappointed about in this news is actually not Arthur surviving, as i have wanted him gone but if he was able to see his deal out makes sense, but keeping the assistants doesn't. How does it go from he is on the hot seat to getting everything the same after one win? And i don't want to hear that it was not Arthur's choice to keep them, he wanted them to stay and the club agreed. So why were they kept? who knows. Though Arthur staying is not overly suprising as i think now it was true what was said in the media that we could not afford to sack him, if so fair enough. However it shouldn't be the case for Murphy and Kidwell.

Both their deals were over this year, meaning they would not be paid out for next had they not been kept, with Arthur having one year left and having disappointing results before the club had leverage on Arthur to decide what is best for the club with BA. 2022 is massive as i have numerous times mentioned in an earlier blog that is dangerous in re-signing players if Arthur is not signed earlier and has a cloud hanging over him as to whether he stays or not, where is this year he always had a contract to lean back on. But the club should have suggested this is your last chance why not change up the assistants to get a new voice in there to save your job, but caved in to repeat the same program year in year out.

Will new assistants cause friction? yeah it could but they are professionals and need to get on with the job, if new assistants are implemented their job is to assist Arthur but Arthur has final say on what happens with different game plans etc. So if the same person is still in charge where is the issue? well BA and an assistant my not see eye to eye, well this is where you allow Arthur to sit with new assistants and decide who he wants, as at the end of the day it is a new voice whether BA picks it or not a new voice is needed, if it doesn't work then 2022 is his last, if it does then fantastic. The need to sign them now and at all is uncessary and i believe bad as 2022 goes into a very year of distraction around BA more than ever before, no deal past the year, assistants in same boat, big name players off contract and pressure to say what is happening, if you leave it til semi's to re-sign him then it means a rebuild of some sorts due to some players leaving, or re-signed early from a good to great start and then falls vicitim to same tradjectory as past years and same outcome for a few more years. Or it could work out with a prelim this year or next or both and they've turned a leaf and this negative media may have kicked them and club up the arse to pick up their act.

COVID should not affect next year unless players are not vaccinated (if lockdowns still happen the country will riot) and other teams are in same boat so can't use that as a reason to re-sign them. I'll end with this if BA wins us a comp i will be first to admit i am wrong and praise and apologise to him, and i hope he does he is a nice guy and a hard worker and shed blood and stress he has earned it i can live with him being kept for 2022, but this call for the assistants i cannot live with. Ryan Carr surely could have been moved up to a higher role and add a replacement for Kidwell and done, then add new NSW cup coach maybe another assistant to hang around and put his thoughts in wherever he sees fit, but with Carr there BA has someone he trusts and can add new insights more than he could with Murphy there.

Let's hope it works out for the best but i don't like the chances, as much as BA is letting himself down keeping them the board are letting him down more by not righting his wrongs by standing up to him and getting new people in.

  • LB your blogs are getting as long as HOE's as well as Professor Daz's pre match reviews . Please understand that both those members blogs are primarily based on FACTS , like statistics and records. It has today been confirmed that BA and his assistants will be with the eels again next year 2022.  You, me and others will have to get used to it. Let's all enjoy the ride to success ( eventually) !!! Go the mighty eels !!!

    • Did I say that it is not true? I said it hasn't been confirmed and it could still not happen but the blog is from perspective that it has happened so not sure what you are talking about in regards to facts?

    • Driza, we are not on the road to success, what ride are you on in your imagination?

      • Snake  I did say success  eventually.

  • Our club is a dead set joke, as weak as piss and a worthy laughing stock for other clubs.

  • Eels make two key signings as Arthur’s future becomes clearer

The Eels are setting things up for 2022.

The Parramatta Eels have reportedly extended the contracts of assistant coaches David Kidwell and Stephen Murphy until the end of 2022.

Despite intense speculation surrounding the future of head coach Brad Arthur, the show of faith in his assistants for an extra season, until the end of Arthur's current deal, seems to suggest Parramatta will stick by their much-maligned coach until at least the end of 2022.

It comes as a report in The Sydney Morning Herald suggests Arthur's position at the club is safe for now.

It's understood Arthur has worked strongly with the duo and wanted them to stay at the club, meaning the head coach is still shaping his staff and roster for 2022. It indicates the Eels' board have no intentions of letting Arthur go.

The Eels have had increasingly poor form throughout the second half of 2022, and while an injury to Mitchell Moses, as well as having a tougher run home than any other team hasn't helped, the blue and gold are still sitting in the top six.

That run home saw them play every other side in the top six over the final six rounds of the season, with only a game (and a drought-breaking win) over the North Queensland Cowboys breaking things up for Parramatta.

Arthur has seen his team bow out two years in a row in the semi-finals, while he also faces a crunch with up to seven top-tier players all off-contract at the same time at the end of 2022.

Arthur's position is up in the air beyond 2022, however, the board recently showed support in their coach, backing him to complete his current contract.

    • What a shame the two key signings aren't Hass and Ponga

    • Nothing really different in that article that we don't know, waiting for official note from the club but not sure they even do it.

    • Though one thing i will say that is odd is how he says "Arthur's position at the club is safe for now" for now? it seems it is safe for another 12 months minimum unless it is confidence for the end of this year.
