  • Yes. In AFL you have St Kilda, Founded in 1873, they didn't win a premiership until 1966, since then they have lost I think around 7-8 grand finals and they also have 27 wooden spoons. Over here in England with Rugby League you have Castleford, founded in 1926, they have never won the championship (premiership) which makes Cronulla's wait for a first title look like child's play. They have also only won four Challenge Cups in their history with the last being nearly 40 years ago. I can come up with a few more but there is a start.

    •  How the fk do you not win a premiership in 98 years in a 12 team competition

      • It weren't always 12 teams, before it became the Super League, sometimes you had 20 teams in the top division, but it also fluctuated between 11-20. Castleford's best ever chance I think was 2017 when they finished as League Leaders (Minor Premiers) but then choked majorly in the final against Leeds.

  •  Again, we show that we just have a losing mentality.  Even with 10 to go and a couple of try's up, many of us if we are being honest felt we'd lose, it's just what we do. Whilst Gutherson played quite well tonight, he just has the DNA to miss that last penalty. Losing games in that fashion is as much our identity as the Eel on the logo .

    • I knew we were somehow going to lose, I didn't even get heartbroken at the end because I felt it was inevitable.  I was yelling at the TV not to take that last shot at goal, I knew he was going to miss and even if he kicked it we were never going to win in field goal shoot out extra time.

      • I was at the club with a bunch of people telling me we were home. I said " we will lose this ". .they thought I was nuts , until we did.

Same , just laughed.  Old mate missing that goal just summed it all up for me. We all knew he'd miss , even his fanboys deep down knew he's going to miss. Tried his arse off all night, but he's just a B grade player when it comes to class and leadership.  Team fell apart around him , and he's the leader.

        • There are crunch time champions ....Cleary,Johns,Lockyer,Sterlo,Thurston,Smith then there is Gutho ....tries his ass of but he will always be the winger from manly.............

        • I love gutho for the effort he puts in every week but he is a poor leader, good leaders stay calm and give the appearance they are in control even if they aren't.  This keeps the troops calm and gives them belief and trust, the eels fall apart when they are under pressure,  have you ever noticed the bad choices our team make when under pressure?, that comes from poor leadership,  anyone that can't see we have poor leadership doesn't know what good leadership is.

I can live with gutho remaining at fullback next year but keeping him as captain will only bring more mediocrity at best.

          • The problem with him is that he comes off the paddock after a loss like that and because he went ok individually thinks he was awesome and that's all that matters.  He doesn't see a loss like that as a further extension of his performance. Turns up to pressers in speedos , makes jokes and sarcastic smiles , like he's done his job by putting in the effort in his game . It's blatantly obvious he doesn't see the teams performance as a collective as his performance as a captain. We lose , he's smiles and  cocky post match , we win he's smiles and cocky post match. Someone like Moses burns from a loss. Moses is a bad loser which is want you want from a captain.

Individually he was very good for most of the game. But that's nowhere remotely close to what a captains about. It's like a coach who says hiw well they prepared all week , did the little things right , and all the signs were there that we wouid turn up to play , and we lose badly. Is the coach exempt just because he did everything right in the prpeeation ? No . Same goes for a captain who plays well . That's only half his job done . Gutherson losing the captaincy could be the best thing for Guthersons game in 2025. He may just have his best season yet without the role over his head.

Lomax or Moses have to be the captain next season if we are having a fresh start.

    • Agree I had the same feeling and never felt comfortable, players like Cleary, Yeo and To'o are elite and have gears - when gun  teams verse rubbish ones they play to that level until they feel like putting the foot down and getting serious and that's what the Panthers did from the 74 min outwards
