IS MORTS A 5/8,HALFBACK OR HOOKER???

I don`t usually bag players, so I`ll direct this more at the coach: why did  Anderson continuing to select Mortimer in first grade? I just don`t get it. I used to watch Mortimer when he played in the lower grades, and he never impressed me. Other people on this forum seemed to share this view at the time. Then he came into first grade last year and did pretty well on the back of Jarryd Hayne and Jeff Robson at half-back. Then the media got invoved and he was way over-hyped. Over-rated...

Now, this year, he has done nothing. Finally, Anderson moves him back to five-eight, coz of Robsons injury. Daniel Mortimer did NOTHING last night. NOTHING.  Is Anderson going to spend another six months trying to mould him into a five-eight again? And Mortimer`s obvious replacement at five-eight is Tom Humble. I am just disappointed...

Is Daniel Mortimer a Hooker,5/8 or Halfback?

Im so confused :S

  • yeah hes very tough
  • He is an out and out hooker. Any suggestion that he belongs in the halves is ludicrous. It is plain to see to anyone but our coaching staff - much to our detriment.
  • I think he would be a good hooker! I don't whether he's played at that position though!
I hope for his sake that he's a hooker, because at the moment, I'd keep the ball away from him at all costs! He's kicking game was shithouse last night!
When your halves don't know what's going on, then no one does!
  • Why didn't he try Mateo at 5/8th any earlier?
  • I watched quite a bit of junior footy when he was playing and he really caught my eye as a 5/8, unfortunately for him and for the team he was thrust into first grade way too early because of injuries to other players and he really played well in a team that was on fire and this gave a false sense of where he was really at skill wise. The main reason he wasn't dropped earlier was because DA was worried about the media and how it would affect Morts ( i know this from other members of the coaching staff). I still feel he will make a good 5/8 outside a quality 7 im not sure about hooker i think he is too small and would really struggle defending in the middle where the big boys play.

Our young halves who are both 5/8's really had too much pressure on them without an experienced halfback to guide them and we really expected too much from them and Hayne for that matter and when you think about it they are only 21 and 22 and are probably 2 years away from hitting peak form.
  • Hooker, believe him and mitchell will prove a good pairing in the hooking role next year, but will say he needs to add some bulk to his frame or he will continue to get ragg dolled, where that leaves MK, well ??
  • i think he should b fighting for a hooking spot with mk at the bulldogs next year send them both there
  • he's an orange peeler
  • Hooker without a doubt.
He gets through enough defensive work as it is, and he has a good running game, and good ball skills.
I'd say he and Ants to be the rotating hookers for next year.
  • Probably go well at 5/8 or hooker for WENTY - after this season he has not shown any inkling of making any sort of lasting impression in 1st grade.
Shame tho - got all the attributes with guts and commitment but lacks badly in the talent area.

You have to wonder if his family didn't push him onto a game he probably didn't want to play nearly as much as they wanted him to play
