Is Gyngell the man for the NRL Job??

The charismatic businessman has resigned from the hot seat at Channel Nine just at the time when the game of rugby league is looking for a new leader following the departure of the unimpressive David Smith. And while I’ve been told Gyngell quit the television game for a well deserved break, there is no better man to lead the game forward – and NRL officials should make an immediate approach to install him as Smith’s successor.Gyngell knows rugby league – something that gives him an immediate advantage over Smith. He is a league man through and through – a former Roosters board member and has been a fan of the game all his life. And unlike the Welshman, Gyngell is one hard nut – willing to fight tooth and nail to get the best deal possible for his organisation. With no real classical training in business he continually got the better of the NRL when TV rights were negotiated in recent years.Make no mistake, the NRL need a winner to steer the ship and the former Nine boss is certainly that. In 2012 Gyngell not only helped lead the network back from threat of bankruptcy, he was also the driving force behind the company’s all important listing on the Australian Stock Exchange. His credentials speak for themselves but perhaps most importantly, he understands the media – something that few at NRL headquarters can claim to fully comprehend. The NRL is using a recruitment firm to perform a global search for the right man to take the game to new heights – but the answer to their prayers could very well be right in front of them in Gyngell. At the very least, it’s worth a phone call. This is another job for the boys, and the Roosters would be crowing if this eventuates!!!

  • Gyngall willing to fight tooth and nail, Pffff, James Packer beat him easily. He can't fight!

  • They could actually do alot worse - can't see it happening though.

I can't imagine Gyngell taking orders from that numb skull Grant.

Grant, Greenburgh, Richardson - the whole place needs a massive broom through it..

  • How rediculous. Gyngell could earn twenty times the salary in the corporate sector. Why would he want to deal with the Neanderthals involved with the NRL . It would be like a kindergarten teacher trying to get the class to do something as a collective. The majority are too stupid to understand the task at hand ,the rest have tantrums because the agenda doesn't suit.
  • What's so inspiring?
  • I agree Frankie , the only reason he's not being considered is the current status quo would be effected by his appointment. How powerful is the status quo, one only needs to look at the state of the game and the enforcement of the salary cap and tpas to see where the power base lies. That won't be given up easily. You can't beat strength in numbers though.
  • Gyngell = RORTERS.

Another blogger down with the ORF SEEZUN malady.

  • The Broncos would still get every Friday night match when at home.

  • Nope... fights like a nob.

  • Kim Gyngell maybe.
