there was speculation on the Supercoach podcast yesterday that the reason Cam King may not get a lot of first grade is due to issues with him in our 2nd tier cap.
Anyone know for certain?

I believe there was an article last year where BA talks about how he was apologetic about King not getting game time last year because of the Second tier cap.
He then went on to say that he made promises in order to encourage him to stick with the club for this year.
At any given point in time you can only have 25 players whose salaries count toward the cap. Those are the 25 highest paid at that point in time. Note, you can promote players into the top 25 (if you have cap space) by paying them more, but you can't drop blokes out by giving them a pay cut (assuming they even agree).
As for match payments and so on, they don't affect a player's value under the cap in the year they are earned/paid. They are calculated, for cap purposes, before the season starts based on the number of games played the preceding year.
So a player who only played five NRL games last year (because he was inexperienced, injured or just a backup) has a match payments component of $5k/game. His pay this year is obviously based on the number of games he plays in 2017 but his cap value (for the match payments at least) is 100% based on the number of games played in 2016. So if he plays one game in 2017 he will earn $5k (plus base salary) and if he plays 24 games he will earn $120k + base salary. In either case his cap value for 2017 is $25k ($5k times the five games he played last year) plus base salary.
That's how it works. Otherwise you could never manage your cap during a season. When players 'miss out due to second tier cap issues' it means the second tier cap was filled by other players before he got the chance for a call up.

Thanks for 3 paragraphs about something I already know...The question is...Is cam kings selection still being impacted by this issue?
"HFK, Fair point. Sure, we could. But balancing incoming youth with experience is almost a perennial issue. A constant cycle. It never really goes away. At least not for too long. "

BA has been open about these things in the past...wouldn't hurt to just ask him

I'm guessing those promises were a Top 25 spot.
I reckon you're probably right.
that's my point...something doesn't add up and may relate to this issue.
Well he was injured last year and Nelson played hooker in 2015, before King was at the club.
Was discussed extensively last week in post from Big Dave:
