Is anyone worried about the trials we lost??

Don't get me wrong. I know we not playing for prize money in these trials.
Trials mean nothing in the big picture..
I know we were not full strength last game, and lost
I know we were almost full strength week before that, and lost.
I know the players and coaching staff are trialling players in positions and in different combinations.
It would have been nice to win a game leading into round 1...?
Purely for the team/players confidence..??
Should we be worried about having a slow start to season based on our trials?
your thoughts..?

  • This blog is phrased alot better than the others. I wouldn't say there is a need to be worried, but at the same time it would have been nice to have won that last trial for some confidence going into round 1.
  • It behoves us to remember that it was 12 all at half time against the Roosters before DA took the experienced players selected for the match off and replaced them with younger players and players out of position. The result was inevitable.

Running the rule over other clubs, several have suffered season ending injuries to players and most have a few notable injuries that will rule blokes out for 5 to 6 weeks. We didn't need go to hard in our trials because DA knows what he will get from each player. It was obvious they used the three hit-outs to get some run into the players' legs and thankfully, we've come out of the trials injury free. It's also a positive to see Kris Keating hit the ground running after a disrupted 2009 season.

I don't think we can expect the sort of razzle dazzle footy that we played at the back end of the season in Round 1 against the Dragons - it takes a while to build that sort of momentum. And if want to be honest with ourselves, it was the almost reckless offloads that were creating problems for the opposition - not carefully structured play a la the Melbourne Storm.

If we put these factors into context, whilst the bookies might have us as favourites, and I'm in no doubt we'll be there at the business end of the season with as strong a chance at the premiership as anybody, the trial results are not cause for concern. The only thing that would be cause for serious concern is a loss to the Dragons in the same fashion as we lost to the Dogs and Broncos in the early rounds last year - i.e. aimless attack, pathetic defence.

    But I don't think we'll see that!
  • From a confidence point of view I was hoping they'd at least win the last one against the Roosters. Particularly as the first game is against tough opposition in the Dragons.

However, as most people have said you can't read too much into what happens in trials. Let's see how they are travelling after a few rounds of the season proper.
  • Trial's are just that, "A TRIAL", to experiment, try differant things that you can't normally do in a competition round, there are new players that we have to sort out whom they connect best with, what their best position may be, remember there are also new rules this year, so we have to have the basics right, there are no points on offer, just the chance to get season ending injuries to key players.
I can bet if Jarryd Hayne got a season ending knee injury in the roosters trial cos he played the 2nd half, we would all be livid, "WOULDN'T WE"......

    So no cause for alarm,
Round 1, an very imposing and impressive EELS unit is going to run out at Parra Stadium to a packed house, all players on deck, no injuries, and kick some serious DRAGON ASS all the way back to Kogarah, Just like last time we played em'......
  • Nope.
  • Well said, Bert. While it would be nice to have gotten at least one win, at the end of the day there were no points on offer. We came out of it with no major injuries, which is far more important than a trial win. The coach didn't seem concerned at all about not winning, so why should we?

Let's all be positive about the season ahead and bring on the Dragons in round 1!!
  • What I am worried about is not the trials form so much as the expectation of success that has been built up.

Parramatta are far from guaranteed success this season.

I don't like our starting halves in terms of experience and match winning ability.

We need to build from last year - not just try and pick up where we left off.
  • look boys i know its hard to deal with but eels are chokers and we have had 3 games as premiership favourites and we lost all 3 so im saying no 2010 will not be our year unfortunately and im worrying about 2011 because i know the pressure will get to the team as it has every year since ive been alive that is all.
  • Didn't you say in another blog that you are a Canberra fan?

    You have some serious issues.....
    • HAHAHAHAH what a loser
