The coaching saga at Parra it’s been narrowed down to two final candidates: Jason Ryles and Josh Hannay. The rest have all been ruled out for various reasons.

The board’s favourite are those two

Madge ruled out because the Board reckons he is very set in his ways much like BA.

McDermott Wasn’t in the mix. Everyone else named is just to make the numbers.

Board not sold on Cheika, even though they do agree that Chieka has been successful as a head coach of international and big clubs.

The CEO and board are nervous and this coach signing needs to be the correct one and relize getting this wrong may speed the end for some of them.

This is what has been told to me...I guess time will tell, so don't shoot the messenger.

  • I'm leaning to Hannay slightly, maybe able to drag some sharks players with him to parra to lol. Ryles seems ok but been burnt with Bellamey assistants before

    • QLD players too perhaps?

      • Hopgood extension finalised immediately if Hannay is chosen I'd assume

      • Wisfull thinking . But how many players would leave their NRL team to follow an assistant for a team they play in 3 times a year for if they're lucky.

Just as a guess , I'm thinking we can't think of too many examples in time where a player has followed their Origin assistant to a new club ?

        • few assistant coaches have made a good fist of coaching recently, Webster Fitzy payten ect. Only way to find out if they can coach is to throw them in. Other then Madge no real tried and tested coaches available

        • Ciraldo is another who took half the panthers roster with him 🤣.

          • Wiz, you have chosen your accolytes well...... what level of IQ did you start leaving them out, any one over 85 was a non starter/ineligible ??

          • Origin , yaknow. As in  QLD l hence the part about leaving an NRL club to follow an assistant for a team they'd be lucky to play in 3 times a year 😂😂. At NrL level yeah, they'd build a solid releationshio with a guy like Ciraldo ,  even though he was fortunate enough that Gus had cleared the decks for a massive spend and I'd suggest they went for the money more than Ciiralso , hence why Luai didn't follow also.

    • Anyone but Madge. We've seen it first hand when he was at the Tigers and his SOS team selection is a debacle. Yeah he won a comp at Soufs but who couldn't with the roster they had.

Hannay would be my pick of the two rookies. Ryles seems a bit dumb to me. Maybe too many head knocks as a prop forward.

      • Sorry Zip, do not want to be rude or make it look like i am attacking you, but i reject this notion by many anyone could have coached that Souths team to a comp. It was a great team but there were so many better teams in the last 10 years that won a comp over them. 15' Cowboys, 16' Sharks, 17' & 20' Melbourne, 18' & 19' Roosters, all the Penrith teams are all better than that Souths team. Madge did a decent job with that team developing most of those players.

Madge is not my no.1 choice, i am overly not keen, but i reject this narrative that the Souths win was an outlier.
