In-demand Tonga set to leave Titans

Gold Coast centre Esi Tonga is almost certain to quit the Titans at season’s end after attracting strong interest from rival NRL clubs.

Tonga has offers on the table from the Parramatta Eels and Cronulla Sharks and is likely to make a decision on his future within 10 days.

The Melbourne Storm are also believed to be interested, in what would essentially be a swap for Beau Champion, who confirmed a three-year deal with the Titans on Friday.

Tonga’s manager Chris Orr strongly denied it was a case of Tonga being squeezed out of the club after the signing of Champion and Bulldogs giant Jamal Idris.

Orr did not rule out Tonga remaining a Titan next year but the chances appeared remote.
