Impressed with our forwards

I was really impressed with our forward display last night. In this day and age with the amount of ball and extra sets the dogs had they should have easily beaten us. They didn't. The main reason was the display of our forwards against a much heralded dogs pack. Out of our 9 forwards only two (Edwards and Gower) didn't average 9+ meters a carry. For the dogs, out of their 9 forward only 3 managed to average 9+ meters (Maitua, Klemmer and Williams). It was a great display from our forwards and deserved a better result. Hayne said that they a reason he is playing well, they lay the platform and I think it is the case. Manly don't have the same intimidating forward pack. If we can repeat last tonight's efforts and get a fair go from the refs we can stop hopefully their creative spark and cause the upset.

  • Good blog.

Apart from a few lapses we can put down to inexperience, our forwards were great.

I'd love to see the addition of an experienced rep forward. We'd be able to challenge for the premiership.

  • Not impressed with this blog apparently.

    Come on, you slackarses.   Discuss.

  • Interesting stats, very nice to see. It's just unfortunate that the Bulldogs were able to score through bullshit penalties and soft defence. I do love our young forwards though.

  • I can't help but think that if Jnr is out there on Friday night we win. Whether he starts in the 13 or on the bench he's displayed that he can make at least 100 metres and a bunch of tackles. Can't wait for him to be back on the park on Friday night.

  • Our forwards were great, with the exception of Pauli. The kid needs to pick up on his fitness and could do with a few games back in NYC or NSW Cup playing a full 80 minutes (with the exception of his try saver which was great). This week should see Junior back and the perhaps the possibility of MAU making an early return (not sure if Terepo is also in line for returning but I think that he would be an improvement to Pauli at this stage as well). Should create some interesting speculation on the make up of the starting side as well as the bench. On another positive, how good was it to see Moeroa's work rate? I know he's a work in progress but at 18 - hat's off to the kid for trying his heart out and not backing away from the hard stuff.
    • Pauli played about 70 minutes for Wenty on Sunday.

  • I have been a bit disappointed in Pauli Pauli of late. I understand he won't perform consistently well every week but it seems a long long time since he did much at all.

The best thing he did on Friday was pull Hodgkinson back by the scruff of his neck.

Expected him to start dominating a bit more often - like his game earlier against the Dogs. Not every week but maybe 3 out of 5.

    • I put this this down to the inexperience of our pack as a whole.

We're lacking that big impact forward to lead and inspire the other forwards.

If we were to get Watmough, and if he stays fit, we have a team to challenge for the premiership.

  • Job done!!! Well done to the most underrated pack in the comp. keep it coming boys!
