I'll be back: Mateo vows to return to the Eels

NEW ZEALAND Warriors-bound utility Feleti Mateo vowed during his short but emotion-charged address at the club's presentation night during the week that he'd one day return to the Eels.''I come from Parra, so I'll be back, for sure.''Coach Daniel Anderson, who was angered a few weeks ago to learn the club had met for talks with New Zealand coach Stephen Kearney, remained upbeat when he reflected upon the lessons of 2010.''You have to dig in when it's tough and you have to persevere,'' Anderson said. ''And you will be rewarded for your efforts.''With that adversity [of the season] I've noticed a lot of determination in the coaching staff, there's a lot of determination from our board and our office and I'm sure the young men who are going to play in the Parramatta colours next year will show a lot of determination for redemption after the disappointments of this year.''Anderson told the club's faithful he wanted to see a harder edge in next year's Parramatta outfit.''I'd like to see us playing tougher for longer [throughout a game],'' Anderson said. ''There's a lot of commitment, effort and a lot of attitude - but we've slipped … in various patches. There's so little between first [on the ladder] and 16th; if you make a minimal improvement you'll rise up the ladder.''Chairman Roy Spagnolo believes the Eels' season, which he acknowledged was ''tough'', should be defined by the club's financial growth and not their points on the premiership ladderHowever, Spagnolo said the balance sheets confirmed 2010 had been a boom winter. He announced $2.5 million had been saved in football operations, football membership had increased to 11,000, sponsorship had grown from $3.5m to $5m, there were 7000 season ticket-holders and the sale of club merchandise was up by 20 per cent.

  • It's good to see that he doesn't have any bad blood against the club, and I would love to see him back at the club at some stage.
Good luck at the Warriors Feleti, and it'll be good to see you back.
