So Sharp, Anderson and co are back in the drivers seat for now after their injunction was granted.

The worst thing they could do now is try to be heroes out of all of this and  attempt to get Parramatta salary cap compliant in a desperate bid to play for points this year.

Unless Anthony Watmough's medical evaluation comes through in the next week and a half and he is off our books, its mission impossible.

NRL clubs, already at the end of their own salary cap limits, will use this opportunity to pay absolute bargain basement prices for quality players. I am talking 150 k for Radradra, 200k for Jennings, prices like that, with the eels left to cover the rest for this season and maybe beyond.

It simply isn't worth it when we are such a long shot of even making the semi finals this year anyway. We will be no chance if we have to shed 3 or 4 good players.

The result will be that we are back to square 1 and a bottom 8 side for years to come.

Sharp etc, don't stuff this up even more than you already have. If Watmough stays forget about this year.

I and other rational eels fans will cop our medicine this year and be ready for a tilt a the title in 2017.

  • Agreed. There would be no point in loosing too many players at well below market value to try to save this season and costing us for the next few seasons. If we can have Watmough's insurance claim done and we have to shed one more player then they should, any more than than and they would only be hurting the club into the future. Hopefully calm heads will prevail.

  • Isn't this a great chance to shed players like Kelly, Folau, Toutai? They won't make 570 but it's a start. Add Morgan to that list. Perfect excuse for us to get rid of the players whose contract expires end of this year who we weren't going to retain. Theres around 15 off contract next season. We weren't going to keep them all anyway. I'd almost flick Cornish based on our refusal to play him when Foran & Kelly are both out!
    • Clubs won't be interested in the majority of those players. We won't be able to sell them.

And as it won't really help our situation why would we bother, we will only ravage our depth for no good reason.

    • There is no chance that we will just be stubborn and not shed the 570 though. There is so much pressure on already and the fans want to see us give it a crack for the finals so it will happen. Logically hooker is an area we can focus on, we have 4 + Nelson at the club, King would be the obvious choice. The revolt if we simply do nothing will be so big it's not funny. Releasing Jnr if the Raiders can pay at least part of it may have to be an option. It doesn't affect our future premiership hopes. Let's hope Choc retires, if not, we need some really good decisions made.
    • Morgan has been released to play out this year at Storm, how much saved?  If he was on $250k half that for this year, he is on contract still for next year.

Of the others in your list, none of them would attract a lot of interest, only ones that would are those we need to keep.  There are a fair number off contract at years end, many on contracts only for this year, such as Kelly & he's out injured for the season.  No value at all in an shedding of players.  We have to pay them contract money for the remainder of their contract.

  • I agree. If the NRL is fair dinkum about helping us they will help us to fast-track that process.

There is simply no way for us to get cap compliant without ruining our chances for the next five years

    • Greenberg said yesterday the NRL have never received the medical documents to judge Choc's retirement
    • Phil they put it through insurance first not nrl .could have been all over ,all they had to do was payout and claim back ,game over
  • Let's not jump the gun, for a start those names mean a lot to parra both on the field and in the corporate world. The NRL can't expect players to just move families, children from schools and homes. There a way of sorting this mess out quickly and that's with Watmough. They can't expect Parramatta to release players, then pay there wage to play for other clubs as they sit back and watch the club drop to there knees. They have a duty of care to help where they can, I'm not sure what Sharp & co are up to, but the NRL must understand if they placed all the tpa on us, they also know it was something we weren't expecting. This is how they can stand back, and watch the punishment continue, this whole saga is very well calculated.
  • Everyone will be jumping out of their skin to take Kelly off our hands for this year, with a busted ACL.. That'll save us some coin!
