The purpose of having a player like Scott is to have a veteran teach the younger guys how to play to a high level each week. He's been here for 2 seasons now and I hope our boys have learnt plenty off him. A big positive I think of having Beau is the development of Tepai. He's developed in to quite the player on that right edge and has also been tough in the middle, a role Beau has done over his career.
I think Moera / Mau / Brown / Kenny / Alvaro have done v well; and B Scott has been on bench. I am sure BA knows this and i think our fwd defence has been v good; i have more concern of defence out wide Wile.
We've already see Brown playing lock and Mau and Tep on the edges, which is coming along nicely. I reckon BA will convince Scott to go around one more time next year and possibly look to recruit another back rower after that. Hopefully by then the back row will have learnt a lot from Scott.
Don't get me wrong Wile, I love Scott and his hard edge approach. I have heard how good he is in the wrestle / tackling at training. I would like him to be here for another year or two
While I was sceptical with his signing owing to age, especially when BA was looked as if he was raiding multitudes of nursing homes, and pushing Poppa outa the way, he has certainly more than proved his worth at and with the club.
Players like Scott give more to a team single handedly that 2 or more others can give. Experience is earned and developed, rather than a simple call up to grade and you have made it. Every so often a player comes along and contributes so much to the team, that you realise what we had missed in the past, such a player is Beau Scott and what he has done for the club and team.
To perform as he and the others did last week was something to behold, no compromise in attack and defence and toughness that belieys his size. I hope he lasts out his contract, and in that time that he can pass on some of his experience to others, including the younger players in the side also those coming through. He is the prize example to lift the likes of Nathan Brown and Tepai Moeroa into being the players that will take the club well forward into the future, likewise to some of the younger talent in the 20's (and whatever that will end up as and like next year) and ISP.
Once he hangs up his playing boots though he's a player that I would like to see still involved in the club more especially to work with those young forwards that are coming through, as he would more than compliment the coaches already on board.
The important thing with Scott, if he retires at the end of next year, a good chunk of our forwards are near or over 100 NRL games. They're seasoned players used to the rigour of professional rugby league which is something we couldn't say when Scott arrived.
Sorry Pou, I wasn't aware of the contract status. Certainly if he is contracted next year he'll play unless injury takes over.
