How to beat the Storm

As with an analysis of any competitor a good place to start is strengths and weaknesses. The bad thing for us is they don't have many weaknesses but slater and vunivale do have mistakes in them. Semi seems to have it over vunivale so it's our best attacking chance. We have to kick early and kick long. If you didn't watch many Melbourne games this year have a look at the replay of their game against the raiders. They get 3 in the tackle for every one off pass from the ruck and the player tackled goes to their haunches more often than not after he's played the ball. Why-for starters he's got 3 big units on him but they wrestle and apply choker holds wherever they can meaning they wear out the opposition by allowing them to have the ball.A contested bomb-semi v vunivale is our best hope in attack. There's no holes in their d because they slow the play the ball down so much and have incredible line speed.Their play the ball is extremely quick on the back of 2 or 3 big units running it straight down the middle. We can't let it be quick. We have to lay on them as long as we can and if it means giving penalties when they're 10 out then so be itLastly we have defensive weaknesses in smith, taka and avua. Smith positionslly and defensively, avua is not a winger and taka is slow on his feet. If we've all seen it then I guarantee Bellamy has seen it and will target it. We have to change that before this game. Whatever the changes are they can't be predictable-e.g. Maybe avua moves into center in d and Jennings on the wing. Taka moves into the middle of the field in d and mau out to centres. Obviously French comes in for smith if fit. I don't know what changes are the best but we can't have the same structure in defense as we have for the last 2 games.

  • My game plan to beat the storm.
Forwards must run in pairs at all cost, no one of the ruck. Little tip on plays before the line against the storms pack should reduce the gang tackles. I would also encourage the offload from certain players when being gang tackled.
Every one must fight when on the floor even in the dying stages when they are tired. Captain manah must always complain to the refs about them lying on us in the tackles even when they are not.
Kick early and long, our halves have a great kicking game which we can use to our advantage. Turn there forwards around and tire them out.
Target curtis scott and ado cars side. Jenko has been on fire for us these last couple of games and i think scott vs jenko is a miss match.
Bomb to slater. Keep bombing slater and gang tackling him as he catches the ball. It wastes one of thier tackles, puts pressure on there fullback and takes slaters kick returns outa the game.
  • Second faze play, kicks have to be away from slater and turn the fcuks around all day and you give yourself a chance against any team as long as you limit your mistakes and yes it's a cliche.I also believe we completely play outside the box even with chip overs as Billy always stands to far back a lot of the time. There man not machines Storm play with such high intensity and at some stage they have to crack, let's hope it's this week.
  • It's all about the ruck.
We play fast through the middle third, run up in twos, get the outside backs involved, fight hard for quick play the balls.
Storm play compressed defence so early shifts will gain yardage and also allow quick play the balls for us.
We get that right and our points will come.
    • This is how Melbourne will likely play also.
  • We have the run low and not upright or they will hold us up and really slow the play down, hit and spin should also be our focus for this week so that we control how we go to ground for a quick play the ball and therefore they can't wrestle us down and any delays should (and that's a big fucken should) result in a penatly.
  • We don't try to outsmart the storm and just play our own game. A good start for us is key.

  • Probably. Without any early shifts though
  • Simple game plan is to ensure the Eels have a much larger brown paper bag for the referees
  • Bomb Slater and have Semi compete running in from the side - to avoid the Slater karate kick out front

"Your right. We need to build from within the pathways. We have an elite prospect in every position. It's just that those centre and wingers are only in SG Ball next year. Every other position, they are already in JF or Cup"
