How Eels snuffed out Brent Sherwin

Daily Telegraph 6/8/10
THE Eels' desperation to snare a halfback led to some inquiries about former Bulldogs No. 7 Brent Sherwin last week.
After missing out on Trent Barrett and Brett Kimmorley considering retirement, the Eels are leaving no stone unturned in their bid to find a partner for Daniel Mortimer.

The Eels were told Sherwin is past his best and will continue with their hunt to sign ageless playmaker Kimmorley for 12 months.

Some at the Eels are refusing to give up on signing Barrett despite the NSW player announcing his retirement a fortnight ago.

We are told Barrett had agreed to terms but did a backflip after suffering a shoulder injury that will require surgery at the end of the year. It was also revealed that the Eels will have a look at Jarrod Mullen for season 2012 when the Knights star comes off contract with Newcastle.

STILL on the Eels, expect the club to re-sign talented forward Justin Horo next week.

Coming off the bench, the big unit has impressed coach Daniel Anderson and will be re-signed for another two years.

Another hoping for a contract is former Bulldog Lee Te Mari

  • brent sherwin does he still play?
  • Jarrod Mullens name is the most interesting thing mention in this article
  • the tele loves writing about parra anything at all, theres also a hayne interview with james phelps today
  • From my info up here near Newcastle Mullen is in talks to extend his contract until 2015 with the knights, don't think he will go anywhere.
  • I think Mullen would be excellent at Parra...
Saying that he would have a few clubs after him I can imagine.
  • Im a fan of Mullen, would be a nice catch...

Great to hear finally Horo signed up...

    Sherwin, no fu@kin way
  • I would probably say the Sherwin rumor is nothing but a Gee up.
No way would we have been speaking with him.
  • I think the real question is, who haven't we snuffed out?
  • Mullen won't sign with Parra, he's a knights boy and thats where he belongs.

Tbh I think although he is a very talented player he has been worse than mediocre for the last 2 seasons and while other players at that club have copped their fair share of criticism for their poor showings Mullen has seemed to be untouchable as he still has that 'golden boy' 'next joey' tag with him, which imo is unjustified.
  • i think mullen would be a cracker of a siginging..... his signiture would be the best behind only cronk....... his a good talker, good running game and one of the best left to right passes in the buisness.... can u imagine the holes he could put the likes of tahu, reddy, hayne, smith through ti find open space.......

"I don't think anyone is really saying Cleary can't play Origin. But something is definitely amiss. He dominates at club level to a standard, up there with Fittler, Johns, Lockyer, Thurston, Cronk.
But facts are - he doesn't stand out at Origin…"
