Hey guys, its been a while since I posted anything, but after watching the game last night, I thought it was time that I did. I have been thinking for a while that how the game could be improved if a knock on was only a knock on if the ball actually hit the turf. My way of thinking is it would speed up the game if we didn't have all these replays to see if a player knocked the ball into an opposing player or not. As long as the ball doesn't touch the ground who cares if it hits another player or not.
I am sure someone will educate me on the error of my thoughts of a rule change and I will be happy to be proven wrong, so the ball is in your court, fire away.

It appears any dropped ball becomes a knock on these days. So many balls are knocked backwards but are called back as knock ons
Very true Brett, it amazes me the lack of ball security sometimes at the highest level, and agree when 2 players are competing for the ball as long as it doesn't hit the ground play on
Cameron Smith probably ruled that Billy's one was ok though and called play on.
It's a rule that has become way too technical and common sense has fallen away.
I agree with the sentiment when players are competing - stupid to be calling a knock on because it might have skimmed one players fingernail then on to a thread on the sleeve of another player while they are both jumping for it in the air! The other one that infuriates me is a player making a tackle, not playing at the ball, and they happen to dislodge the attacking players loose carry being called for a knock on - Jenko had one on Thur night - that's another stupid interpretation of the rule.
Eliminate the grey and the confusing. It's a simple game - keep the rules simple.
