Parramatta have told Jarryd Hayne they still want him to be at the Eels next year despite the NRL star turning up the heat on the club for a new contract.
Off-contract Hayne took to social media over the weekend to claim he was still waiting on an offer from Parramatta, before the club returns to pre-season training at the start of next month.
Responding to fans questions on Twitter, Hayne reiterated his desire to bring a premiership to the Eels but insisted he was being honest in his claims he was yet to receive an offer to stay.
"5 weeks still waiting for a contract??" Hayne tweeted in reply to a plea from a fan for the club to re-sign him on Friday night.
Eels chief executive Bernie Gurr confirmed to AAP on Monday they were still talking to the 31-year-old about a new deal, and they had told him they wanted him at Parramatta.
The two-time Dally M medallist's tweets come after he claimed earlier this year he did not want to make a decision on his future until the end of the season.
At the time Hayne also avoided questions over a potential move to the 15-man game with Fiji, before the Rugby World Cup at the end of next year.
But it now appears clearer that both Hayne and the Eels want to stick together in 2019.
Hayne was one of the Eels' best players in the back half of 2018, busting through 32 tackles and scoring six tries in the final six games of the season as he returned to fitness.
Gurr said last week the club did not have a deadline in finalising Hayne's future.
"Certain dominoes need to fall where they need to fall. We're patient," he said.
"He was very good and off the field (at the end of 2018), and he demonstrated some leadership around the team.
"Once he was fit and healthy, is he the Jarryd Hayne of 2009? No.
"But he was still an effective Jarryd Hayne."

Good to see times are changing in regards to the start of our long term future roster management.
Gurr needs to be credited for not bowing to Hayne's wants.
Hayne is no longer the priority. The future of Parramatta is.
Gurr has only had one off season to sort out this mess of a roster. This shows he's thinking ahead. Good work
Good call Chief, and agree totally. This article actually makes things a bit clearer in regard to things. IIRC on the other blog on Hayne, this is exactly the same thing he pulled when he returned from the U.S and went to the media saying he was waiting to hear from the eels about a contract. Yet here we see that he wanted to not make a decision till end of year, and Gurr is saying they are talking, who's putting the bull out?
Col Brad said the club wanted him for next year back mid August and apparently waiting for Jarryd to make up his mind. Hayne said he wanted to finish our season first and true to his word it was well reported that Hayne wanted to stay early September. Bernie and brad don’t communicate well or Bernie is putting the bull out.
...think it’s only natural that an uncontracted player would want to know the go.
hayne has to look out for himself as much as we do.
Macy, that's the very thing that I mentioned in my first reply above, thing is how is it reported in the media and why has Hayne gone public? The above report has it that Gurr and Hayne are actually talking and only thing missing is a contract, same thing as happened when he cam back from the U.S.
Early September he and some others of the eels were over in the Middle East on end of season holiday, remember the photo's of them including Mannah? He was at that time saying he was waiting till he got home, so when did he get home and now expects everything to be rolled up in a neat little bundle just for him.
Don't get me wrong I do hope he stays, as he will be a good player and a needed one as well, and yes the like we all do have to look after ourselves but, we could do without the twitty pie and faceache saga surely, if he wants to stay and the coach wants him to stay, then get down and work it out. Thing is I would think that perhaps BA is having a well earned break and until the new HOF arrives that could be the issue, nothing more nothing less, he is the one who will be doing the contract signings.
Just my thoughts on it.
Pops, pretty well what I have also said. Hayne has been in discussions, he likely knows what's on offer and likely happy with it, but its not on paper. That's likely it but he's also one for publicity as is the media for him and the eels. Many ways this has so far turned into the quietest off season for years all round.
The only other thing that I suspect in this outside of the 3 way signature, Hayne, HOF and Manager signature on the paperwork is that he wants it to be a news item exclusively about him and the club may have others ready to announce and that will take place as an open season announcement of pretty well the main 2019 team. Do he want to be the team or part of it?
Just sayin'.
It’s already a done deal trying to sell more papers
I would love to re-sign Hayne, but i feel like he fails to realise he isn't in the same position as he used to be.. He is still a good player, but no longer a young star with leverage. He won't be #1 priority to sign at any cost anymore.
My take from this is that BA has totally stuffed the salary cap up again in only 2 years. Getting caught cheating the cap enabled us to get our cap sorted out yet 2 years later and it seems we have cap problems again, looks like the good old back ended deals fiasco that stuffed Manly and the Dogs strikes at the Eels.
"Certain dominoes need to fall where they need to fall. We're patient," he said.
Yep sounds like we are broke HKF, but Brad shouldn’t be the only one responsible for handling the cap...well shouldn’t be if our “powerhouse” was being run correctly...ohhh mr gurrrrr what a mess!
