Hayne Story in SMH

Jarryd Hayne will be staying put in the NFL and won't be making a return to the NRL, according to the superstar's Australian agent.

NRL clubs have contacted Hayne's manager Wayne Beavis in recent weeks stating their interest in his star client, but the agent says he has contacted Hayne and the 27-year-old is staying put.

"I spoke to him (Hayne) this afternoon (Thursday)," Beavis told Rugby League Week.

No return: There has been speculation Jarryd Hayne will come back to the NRL

"The conversation about him coming home has never taken place.

"He told me he's definitely staying. That's it, end of story. There isn't a decision to make, that's what he's telling me.

"Every club is ringing me up saying if he comes home, we're interested. That's only natural. It doesn't mean he's coming back."

Hayne has been absent from the San Francisco 49ers' playing side for the past month, and is currently training with the franchise's practice squad after the other 31 NFL clubs opted not to sign him when he became a free agent earlier in November.

Reports emerged this week that Sydney Roosters supremo Nick Politis and Penrith general manager Phil Gould were engaged in a bidding war for Hayne's services.

Hayne is also reported to have signed a lifetime deal with Parramatta, guaranteeing his return to the club if he does head back to the NRL.

  • I guess the SMH had to put a stop to Rothfield.

  • Nice budgee adnan
    • good looking fella isnt he

  • Months ago Wayne Beavis stated there is no lifetime agreement in a smh article. i think beavis would know if there was a real binding agreement.

    • Whereabouts in this article did Beavis definitively state that there isn't a contract in place? The only thing I can find in there is this "There is no doubt his heart is with the club, but I asked his agent, Wayne Beavis, about the contract, and he was surprised to learn about the deal but offered no comment."

  • So Hayne "signed" this agreement without his manager's knowledge. I'm pretty sure Beavis would be keeping copies of hayne's contracts. More likely they had a gentleman's agreement and nothing was signed. And Hayne's statement was a publicity stunt to smooth over pissed off fans.

  • The Parramatta club themselves have come out and confirmed there is no contract with Hayne and if he was to return to the NRL he is a free agent.

Please let's move on from Hayne. He left us with a contract in place as well giving us no time to replace him. It's time we move on from Hayne and concentrate on what we are building on.

Fingers crossed that our salary cap dramas are sorted out and we can put ourselves in the market for a quality centre if and when the time arises.

Personally I think we need to build our club around Foran and stop worrying about Hayne and what he is doing and or not going to do.

    • Sorry Daniel - Jarryd Hayne is one of the most gifted players to lace on a boot and I would be highly disappointed if our management team wasn't in regular contact with him. If he comes back to the NRL, we want him at Parra so why shouldn't we speculate and work out how we might be able to facilitate that?

  • Well put Ron. Enough said.
