For mine it was a poor call by the referee, as Coco points out the dummy half for Melbourne held the ball for an age before Hayne played at it, I was actually thinking geez whats that dummy half doing someone should tackle him.
There is no way Hayne was offside in playing at that ball and it should have been play on, but again the refs are brainless and their immediate reaction to anything out of the ordinary is to blow a penalty. Hayne is too footy smart for even the refs.
Mate it doesn’t take much intelligence to out smart an NRL ref.
Surely once the ball clears the ruck, which happens when dummy half has the ball, any play is legitimate, as long as marker square, so cannot understand why ref blows penalty irrespective of who makes the play .
