Re defense. Yes it has.
In other regards, it's a showpiece that the players love and are proud to have as part of their club's facilities.
With BA signed until end of 2019 and a new stadium about to emerge we will be the pride of the league again.
It can't be measured in a year Yobz, and getting that stuff was just getting onto par with the other clubs, I'm not sure its a question that can be answered that way.
I'll have a go, yes, it has to be worth it but you'd have to ask Brad and the boys to get the real answer.
It can't be going backwards to go from a 75m training paddock to two full sizers with the start of facilities, it has to have been worth it.
Maybe the question would be fairer if it was 'have we seen the benefits of our new facilities on the park this year?'
The reason we are losing games now has very little to do with where we train and everything to do with issues seperate of football.
Having only been to the location once, I think its still very much a work in progress. Thing that I remember though is that the grass was not of the same type as generally seen on playing fields, it looked more akin to the old Kykuyu rather than the finer leave type grasses that matches are played on. I may well be wrong on that though.
A training field needs to be as close as possible to the type of ground & surface that is generally played on during the season. Different grasses are found in different areas especially depending on the weather & climates, as such the grass at Canberra & Melbourne needs to be more frost tolerant than in the QLD stadiums. But these days there are a lot of grasses suitable for different climates.
The day I was there, I thought they went well & didn't seem to be distracted by visitors. Long term when all the internal work is completed it will be a top facility & can only help the team overall.
The high end turf used on NRL stadiums is very expensive. I remember when the Central Coast Stadium was built a number of years ago the turf alone was in excess of 1 million dollars and this didn't include drainage. The club and or council would not have had the money to do a high end turf.
We have been decimated with injuries for four (4) seasons in a row and it has hurt us know end. On face value the new facilities/staff has appeared not to have assisted us.
Dave, I would like to see some sort of inquiry or report into the amount of injuries we have had over the past say 5 years, in order to work out if there is a weakness or something in the overall levels in the players.
I may be mistaken but the eels seem to get some pretty bad injuries when compared to other clubs, its not always in matches either. The club would likely have more than one sports medicine staff member, along with the conditioners etc who devise programs for the individual players as well as the team overall. When I look at the aspect of the NRL team along with the ISP & NYC ( those contracted) teams training together they must do some standard exercises & the like for a uniformity in all they do. Given the injuries suffered in critical positions such as the halves its been a tough year for everyone, & would love to see it looked at somehow in order we don't face the same situation again, or at least not as bad.
Watmough injured at training in Feb, Mannah did his shoulder three times, Foran leg injury, Faraimo still injured, Folau was out, Peats his elbow, both Wenty halves their knees, Ualesi, Hasson and Kelepi injuries and the list goes on. We have had a lot of injuries
