Des Hasler's reign at Manly appears to be over with the two-time NRL premiership-winning coach stood down and ordered to front the Sea Eagles board over alleged breaches of contract.

The announcement follows a marathon seven-hour meeting of the Manly board to discuss Hasler's future at the Northern Peninsula club.

"The Manly Warringah board have met this evening and are of the opinion that there have been serious breaches of contract by coach Des Hasler," club chairman Scott Penn said.

"The board has invited Des to explain his actions and in the meantime he has been stood down."

Penn refused to elaborate on the breaches of contract until Hasler fronts board to explain his actions.

Asked whether it was to do with Hasler attempting to take players with him to Canterbury-Bankstown in 2013, Penn replied, "I'll leave that up to you."

Hasler, who last month agreed to join the Bulldogs on a four-year deal starting in 2013, was expected to stay at the Sea Eagles for their title defence in 2012.

But as the fallout from his impending departure continues to spread - with a host of key personnel having announced their intention to quit the club as well - the Manly board met to discuss the possibility of releasing him immediately.

Hasler joined the Sea Eagles as a player in 1984, and has been the side's first grade coach since 2004, leading them to two premierships.

Should he be released, it is expected he would link up with the Bulldogs for the 2012 season, fast-tracking a reshuffle scheduled for 2013 which would see current mentor Jim Dymock become his assistant.

Hasler's departure may not be the end of the Sea Eagles implosion either, with several players - including star five-eighth Kieran Foran - containing get-out clauses in their contracts should Hasler leave.

Punishment should have been removal from the competition ,
