Rugby league legend Arthur Summons loses long-term battle with cancer aged 84
The former Kangaroos captain and coach is famously immortalised in the iconic photo with rival captain Norm Provan that is depicted in the NRL premiership trophy.
Summons, who underwent major surgery in 2018 to remove cancer from his mouth, died on Saturday night.

I've got the Gladiators signed frame proudly hanging in my house.
I sat on the hill in 1963 watching that grand final ,st George wearing white looked the same colour as west’s who as we know wore black.the embrace at the end of the game was something really special. We came from Kangaroo Valley
Great bloke and better footy player.
One of the first dual code representatives if my memory serves me correctly.
Was a teacher at Ryde High School for a few years and coached their senior Wugby side (schools did not play Leeg back then).
The Ryde halfback (who became a very close friend several years later) was my specific target and I hammered him from Breakaway every scrum.
Arthur comes up to me after one very punishing match - we hammered the begeezuz out of each other - and quietly says, "Well played son, you kept him quiet for the entire match."
He took them from being easy beats to one very tough team.
Both me and my mate went on to play for North Shore CHS team and vie for a spot in Australian Schoolboys team.
ABSOLUTE Gentleman.
Vale Arthur.
