Having watched some of the world cup soccer .I noticed coaches used GPS style monitors to assess workload of players. Would that be useful to a coach to help him know who to replace or advise to put on the pace or take a breather? Or perhaps find out where they are.

It's mainly used for reviews. Finding out who is working hard, who's covered the most distance, involvement etc.
If BA brought it in, there maybe a few nervous nellies.
Even if it were introduced it wouldn't be available to the fans that's for sure.
We've been using similar for years.
