Goodbye Hindy, Goodbye Burty

On Sunday 2nd of September at approximately 7pm AEST, Luke Burt and Nathan Hindmarsh will run out for the final time in the Blue and Gold. They've come a long way from the teenagers that debuted in 1998 and 1999 respectively. Hindmarsh from Robertson and Burt from Newcastle may have grown up in different areas but together they embody what it means to play for Parramatta. Two of the greatest club men the game has ever seen will retire with many records to their name. Nathan Hindmarsh holds the record as the first player to make over 10,000 tackles, the 3rd player to run over 30,000 metres, the most capped Parramatta player with over 300 matches and the second highest capped one club player behind only the great Darren Lockyer. Luke Burt will retire holding most points by an Eel in a match with 28 points, most tries in the Blue and Gold with 124 and the second most career points by an Eel.

Even their debuts were polar opposites. Hindmarsh debuted in front of a small crowd against the now defunct Adelaide Rams in Parkes in 1998. Luke Burt debuted in front of a massive crowd of over 100,000 at the Olympic Stadium against St George in 1999. Burt as come full circle in that sense given he will retire at the Olympic Stadium against St George in front of a capacity crowd.

Both these men have become crowd favourites in their own right. Hindy with his trademark crack showing, waiting for someone to make a deposit and then tackling himself to a stand still. Burty with his trademark professionalism, footy brain and the study of concentration before slotting a sideline conversion. Come Sunday night, at the conclusion of their final game, there surely won't be a dry eye in the ground. Whilst they may not be the most successful players in the game they are 2 of the most respected men in the game.

GOODBYE HINDY, GOODBYE Burty

Whilst Hindy and Burty will play their final game of their illustrious career, so to will journeyman Casey McGuire. The native Queenslander debuted in 1998, the same year as Hindy, and played in the Blue and Gold until 2001 when he moved to Brisbane. At Brisbane he enjoyed a rich vein of form that saw him represent QLD for 2 games in 2005 as well as winning the 2006 Premiership. He left for the Super League in 2007 and played for Catalans until 2010 where he qualified for France under the residency rule but did not play. He returned to Parramatta in 2011 where he has been a solid and consistent player, filling in at 5/8, halfback and hooker. 2012 saw an unfortunate year for Casey where a pectoral injury has forced him out for a large amount of the season. Not only will we be celebrating the career of Hindy and Burt but also Casey McGuire. A man who has been around as long as Hindy will play his final game of his career on Sunday and it will also be his 150th game.

GOODBYE CASEY.

  • Good luck Burty with everything good innings mate.

Hindy, see you next year son.

  • "NB: Casey McGuire will play his final game for the Eels and also his 150th game."

Is that the best you can do for Casey SE22.

You must be part of the Leagues management - or a board member.

Although not a high profile Eels player - none the less he was one of our juniors after moving down from Qld -  has played SOO - and can rightfully claim to one of the gentlemen of league.

Hindmarsh and Burt will be spoken about for years to come - Casey will become an also ran - BUT - he certainly should not be forgotten.

    • OK, I'll put something in for Casey.

  • Being out for so long unfortunately Casey has become "one of the forgotten ones"

He did his best for the short period he has been with us - and made a positive contribution.

    • His injury's been unfortunate and we've actually missed him a bit. I'd much rather him at 5/8 than Ben Roberts. Casey's experienced and can direct a team around.

  • Casey Mcwho???
  • I wish we were saying farewell to Tim Mannah as well!
    • thanks captain positive.

    • LOL Moray i agree, Tim should leave on the same bus as Justin.....n get rid of two of the clubs greatest soft cocks
