Getting interestering in Brisbane

As I posted when Bennet signed with Souths. There is absolutely no way Brisbane will let Bennet coach Brisbane this year because he most probably take some players with him.

Brisbane want him out now and think they can negotiate a settlement with him. Bennets not going anywhere unless Brisbane sack him.

  • I’d pay him out on condition he didn’t coach at another club
    • You think he’ll agree to those terms?

He has a contract so he’ll be entitled to his money, and I’m not sure they’d want it to turn into a court battle. If WB wants to coach in 2019, he’ll be coaching.

    • As I said pay him. Tell him we don’t want him coaching here or anywhere else. Wouldn’t ask him to agree
      • That is a stupid idea, because he's getting paid regardless. If they don't sack him they will be paying him to coach the Broncos in 2019, if they do sack him they will have to pay him anyway, and he'll be coaching Souths in 2019. Actually, he'd love to get sacked by the Broncos, then he'll be getting paid in full by both clubs for a year.

The quickest way for the Broncos to resolve this is to agree to pay the difference between his Broncos salary for 2019 & his Souths salary for 2020, which is reportedly about 300k. I don't know why they are fiddling over 300k, that's chicken feed for the Broncos.

  • The issue is with the difference in salary between what the Broncos are due to pay him this year and what Souths are going to be paying him from 2020 on. The difference is something in the order of 300k, Bennett unsurprisingly isn't prepared to leave that kind of money on the table. If the Broncos want him gone now they will have to cough up the difference.

    • i suppose we should be grateful at least its not another Hayne Blog

    • it will be a negotiated settlement - old clint wants $xx and Broncos are prepared to pay $yy - negotiate and agree on amount and terms of settlement such as no more bad mouthing the club, confidentiality, no poaching of players and so on.

      • The no poaching will certainly be part of it, but even there the Broncos aren’t in a strong bargaining position. If they pay him out, there is nothing to stop TPJ for example from leaving the Broncos for Souths once his contract is up.

I still believe is purely down to money for both parties.

    • The issue is  .......   the Broncos want him gone before Christmas. Broncos are not prepared to let Bennet poach players to go with him to Souths.

Bennet wants his contract paid out in full   ....  otherwise he is staying at the Broncos.

I say  ..   the broncos will have to pay him in full before Christmas to move him on

      • Not quite, he wants the difference between his Broncos salary and what his Souths salary will be, reportedly about 300k
