A LETTER TO THE MEMBERS OF PARRAMATTA LEAGUES CLUB
Dear Members
Yesterday I was appointed Temporary Administrator of the Parramatta Leagues Club Limited.
My immediate priority is to ensure that League’s Club operations continue undisrupted. For management, staff, members and guests, the Leagues Club is open and continues to operate as normal. This doesn’t change.
It is my role to ensure all stakeholders of the Leagues Club have full confidence in the Club’s governance and the management of ongoing operations. It is clear to all that this is currently not the case here with the Eels.
This restoration of confidence in the Club will necessitate a period of review, changes, improvements, and very likely a rebuilding and restructure in the way this Club is governed.
Through this process, it is my intention to remain as open, honest and transparent as possible with our members.
As I undertake my role over coming weeks and obtain a better understanding of the Club’s systems and operations I will be better positioned to provide further information.
I have this afternoon addressed the media and I have attached for your reference a link to my full statement.
Everybody associated with this club desperately wants it to be successful and everything I will be doing will be to ensure the club is well managed, financially strong and in the best position to win games on the field.

I would like to make some brief opening remarks before I take questions.
I hope you will all appreciate that my appointment as Administrator of the Parramatta Leagues Club was made just yesterday evening. I have today had my first series of meetings with the Leagues Club Chief Executive and the NRL.
My immediate priority is to ensure that League’s Club operations continue undisrupted. For management, staff, members and guests, the Leagues Club is open and continues to operate as normal. This doesn’t change.
As such my initial briefings today have largely focussed on the day-to-day operations of the Leagues Club.
It is important that I stress that the appointment of an Administrator was made on regulatory and corporate governance grounds.
I suspect many members of the media will have questions relating to Parramatta Eels football operations and the events that have preceded my appointment, notably the NRL’s audit of Parramatta’s salary cap and its associated findings and sanctions.
Although the Football Club is a separate entity, given that it is funded by the Leagues Club it is obviously of significant importance to the Leagues Club that there is stable management of the Football Club to enable me to carry out my role as temporary administrator.
The corporate structure is quite complicated and I am taking advice on the best way to go about achieving this.
Moving forward it is my intention to remain as open, honest and transparent as possible in my role as Administrator. When I have answers you will get them.
It is important to note my appointment is temporary. It is my role to first understand and then strengthen the governance systems in place at this Club, in readiness for a full Board reappointment at some future point.
It will be my first task to talk to all relevant League’s Club and Eels stakeholders and develop a detailed understanding of what is required to improve the Club’s governance structures and systems. This will include a thorough review of all associated entities including the governance structures in place for the Parramatta National Rugby League Club.
While my appointment is temporary, based on previous experience, I would expect the timeframe for all of the appropriate issues to be considered and addressed and a new structure to be put in place will require a matter of months rather than weeks.
As I undertake my role over coming weeks and obtain a better understanding of the Club’s systems and operations I will be better positioned to provide further information.
Let me be clear, everybody associated with this club desperately wants it to be successful and everything I will be doing will be to ensure the club is well managed, financially strong and in the best position to win games on the field.
A solid statement from Max. One thing I find of interest is that Max is not using the Eels communications people. That role has gone to Newgate Communications as noted at the end of his full statement that was on a Parramatta Eels Leagues Club insignia.
It's usual practice for administrators to temporarily engage a PR/comms team. Our situation is rather unique - the club isn't broke. Usually they need the PR team because there is lots of interest in the financial side. My guess is he didn't know what he'd find when he got here.
You mean CFO?
Mate he wouldn't want that job. What Max does is very high level and well sort after. Being a licensed club CFO is maybe something he achieved in his 20's.
"I got excited thinking maybe a Winger, but seems he is a middle forward. We have plenty of them coming through with Talagi, Koina and Popo.
Hopefully he can be an edge where we have Funa-Iuta and Petrus as the only really great prospects in junior…"
