  • That stuff needs to be burned down. It's a cancer to RL.

  • They probably have a pro active marketing team who've put in the effort to promote their game . Good on them for not just taking it for granted their job will be done for them . Why are you blaming the NRL ? It's not their job to approach Parramatta council for support .
    • Yes it is Wiz. The NRL controls all marketing of the game. Why are they not getting behind the Eels in their finals quest in the local area?

  • I think its the nrl who should be approaching the council to do this stuff. Im sure thats what afl did
  • Burn the fuckers
  • The Eels control their own marketing however the NRL hold all image rights. So the club would need to go to the NRL to ask permission to market the game and then they'd have to go to council to ask permission to put the flags up.

    • You don't need the NRLs images to put your logo and name on the banner . The club could quite easily be promoting ourselves . Are we to expect the NRL be campaigning every council in every suburb to put banners up in every Main Street every year ? It easy for the AFL to promote a one team region .

Our club are the ones that shoud be plastering the town with banners .
      • Well the NRL have a larger marketing budget than the clubs and they own everything including our club logos and they are the ticket rights holder. I don't see why the NRL shouldn't be marketing their finals games. After all the NRL benefits more from the selling of tickets and filling grounds than the clubs do in the long term.

Don't forget the NRL is trying to impose strict rules on club spending so it'd be counter-intuitive to, on one hand, restrict spending and on the other not stump up for the marketing of big games. Marketing isn't cheap, those banners themselves probably cost a few thousand dollars to order and print and as I've stated previously, the club isn't flush with funds at the moment.

Might be a different situation if it were a regular Eels home game but it's a finals match and is a part of the NRL's centre piece in regards to attracting crowds and TV viewership.

        • Super , we have so much money we didn't even have to put a sponsor on our jersey this year . Phuleeese , if we don't have a good enough relationship with Parra Council to arrange a few banners then what are we doing ?

How the hell can thr NRL manage to negotiate with each and every council in 7 days ? The top 8 isn't finalised until a week before the semis start . Have you ever dealt with a council ?

Knowing we were going to finish in the top 4 there is absolutely no reason you can give me to excuse our club from not having arranged with Parra council to have a bit of exposure up around the place .
