Decent article Ennis talking about our chances this year, how the boys have been training and our up and coming players.

  • I believe that the missing ingredients in our campaigns of late has been the quantity of the coaching.

Most NRL players are pretty evenly matched these days but the addition of some quality coaches like Ennis, Mary and Woolford is going to give us a massive advantage moving forward.
Whoever is responsible for the addition of these coaches to the ranks deserves applause.

    • Hopefully your right on paper it looks like good additions

    • See, i do believe the fact that too many cooks in the kitchen can ruin a dish no matter how good each chef is. Too many coaches having different ideas and voices can be bad for a team, though too little can be bad too as some players and ideas can leak through the cracks not getting the attention they need. Is this the perfect balance? perhaps.

With McGregor being BA's right hand man essentially, the man he is he would not tred on BA's toes instead help where he can. Ennis would be at training all week and depending on his Fox League commitments be there game day, which is better as on game day it can be BA, Mary and Kidwell in the box. Woolford being a coach in ESL is an outstanding pick-up for our flegg team, in the past have had flegg coaches so to speak, no dissing the past coaches like Dean Feeney, but Woolford has been more than a flegg coach so his idea stem from more than just development. Being a former captain and NRL hooker helps also.

Out of the three only McGregor will be around the team all the time you would imagine, including game day. Woolford will be with Flegg until their season is finished and Ennis will only be in there game day if he is not on Fox League. So not too many cooks giving ideas. It is what BA needs, still the boss but seeming to be less stubborn for new ideas and to be told something is not working.

      • They are definitely excellent points but I think there are more positives here than negatives.
A quick word in the ear of Moses or some fine tuning of Drown could be the difference between a win and a loss.
I still contend that the Eels main problem over the years is psychological.  They just don't have the hard steel confidence that they need and that's reflected in both their defence and the way they rush offensive plays.
Joey was a step in the right direction for them and make no mistake, Mary IS an NRL quality coach.

    • Agreed Fathead

      • Has anybody noticed all 3 guys - Ennis, Mary and Woolford - have played for Dragons?

  • One thing that I would of thought was standard in every team is the player bonds, however Ennis states:

“Papali’i, Mahoney, Niukore and Kaufusi have got a real opportunity in front of them to finish their time at Parramatta on a high with some really close friends. They are a really tight group out there.

I found it interesting that in the Simmonson interveiw he was asked about the difference between his time at Canberra and now at the Eels and the one thing that has stood out is how tight the boys are at Parra.

Interesting seeing both came from the Raiders.

    • We all knock BA but one thing is for sure, he has created a wonderful culture at the club where players are happy to come to work everyday. Yes players are leaving but not due to the culture at the club. I bet Hodgson cannot wait to get here for that reason compared to Canberra where Sticky is lukewarm on him now and Starling is on his shoulder.

That is the thing the boys are close to Mahoney, but when Hodgson comes they will get close to him, he is a bit of an odd ball but it fits with our playing group. Same with RCG, was rumoured he felt left out of the playing group as he was weird himself and now he fits with the Eels as this group are welcoming and opening.

If we get say Hodgson mid year for example, i will not be concerned over how quick he fits in as the players will embrace him quickly as they do all players.

      • Oh we can only dream about it. Hodgo will lift our team so much that it could really be the difference.

im hoping there is a massive bust up in Canberra and we can punt Mahoney early.
Very hard to see this happening but as I said - you can only dream.
